Nah, it’s futuristic Microslop now

You gotta stop equating Microslop-owned GitHub with code forges/repositories. The first step is change language to be inclusive to other platfrom while not specially mentioning the proprietary, megacorporate option—such as saint code forge or VCS host. The second step is to create an account elsewhere as you primary spot. Our framing of these things matter, & if you don’t like the state imposing its will on you, the corporate option here is more or less an extension of the state (contributors in Yemen for example will be blocked under US sanctions, bug reporters will be required to agree to the ToS & data collection machine of Microsoft, if the capitalist class doesn’t like your project they will have it removed like Yuzu & yt-download while they will allow state-sponsor gangs like ICE to remain on the platform). Break out of “the network effect”.

Google tried a few years back but there was pushback. Google will slowly boil the frog tho.
Availability is hard. Many are only able to be purchased in the West.

Still mad they are dropping the headphone jack

More reason to support public transport that let’s you pay in cash

Sponsors, Copilot, Azure, Codespaces, npm, Teams, Outlook, LinkedIn. Heck Microsoft also has massive control in Rust too.

There’s also a lot of worthy alternatives to Git too. There are many VCSs out there.

Microsoft made Sponsors so they can siphon a portion of the payment fees. There is no reason to make Codeberg add that sort of bloat when you can add a hyperlink to the README.* or in a section of your application to a third-party service that hopefully can be as focused on doing one thing as Codeberg largely has (non-profit hosted Forgejo).

Why stop there? Git’s UX on the command line is awful, so adopt a better tool & your hosting will automatically be somewhere better.

And make it #000 pure black if you do… I have written about why
I can’t comment at all on a11y of it, sorry
I adopted Sailfish OS around a year ago seeing the writing has been on the wall. I get access to F-Droid for apps I need like Cheogram which helps a ton at bridging the gap while hopefully we get more device support for Linux. I want to us postmarketOS, but hardware is usually very, very old—to the point where things like new screens & batteries can be a problem.

They better drop Google (Android) & Apple (iOS) requirements too.

I hope folks aren’t actually surprised Google would’ve eventually done this. Support F-Droid, but start getting yourselves ready to migrate off the mobile duopoly as Apple & Google are becoming more like one another with the power. Yeah, that means yelling at your bank to not require an app & using cash too.
I mean when they adopted MS GitHub & Discord as their only modes of community & contribution, you can know any “open source” project is built on sand
I would 'free but folks need to learn some Nix basics before the jump in headlong into bad community recommendations like starting with flakes. It’s hard to just drop into Nix without some commitment.
KDL is the future. It reads nice & is compatible with both JSON & XML
Lol. Even this $100 phone can get a headphone jack but the massively-funded Android OEMs aside Sony can’t offer this feature.
Funny as search doesn’t work on MS GitHub without auth. If you post your library on a language’s forum, a personal blog post, & some other place, the search engines (or ugh LLMs with Exa search) can find the. There are decentralized forge options like Radicle, or at least a nonprofit-owned. But all snapshot-based VCSs will have the limitation of needing some centralized source of truth in most cases since the model makes a conflict out of patches being pulled in out of order (which the patch theory-based stuff covers).
But we can all still watch the wording aspect so folks feel free to not do dumb things like assume code = Git = MS GitHub.
