Just an update for clarity's sake: the extended downtime we're dealing with is due to an outage at one of our hosts. We are waiting for them to reply to one of our tickets. Nothing to do but wait it out.

Staff IRC has been restored, all services are functional again.

We are dealing with an outage of the staff IRC server. This is unlikely to be related to any of the issues happening to other sites. Should be a few hours and service will be restored.

Site issues should be resolved now (bugs were squashed). 

Regarding the extra BP that was caused by the bug: you can safely spend it, it'd be too big of a pain in the ass to reverse anything, and there's no fun in that anyway. If you were seeding and got extra bonus points, you're good to go to spend/give them away or whatever. Think of it like a 20 dollar bill you found on the ground with no one around to claim it other than yourself.

Separately, we're aware of a couple issues on the site right now related to bonus points accumulation and Film Club. We'll get those fixed as soon as we have time.

The site is having some routing issues right now, not much we can do other than wait it out. Some people as a result unable to connect. You can use a VPN to bypass the routing issue, just be sure to enable 2FA per the rules.

As most of you have figured out by now, we are under DDoS attack and have been for the past week or so. We've been trying to avoid calling it out, as often that empowers the attackers with the limelight.

We don't know who it is or why. They seem to be targeting multiple trackers but are going harder against some trackers more than others.

The scale and type makes it difficult to mitigate. Those that can access the site have better peering than most of the attacking machines and can get through. We’ve taken some measures to try to make the site somewhat usable, and we have some options to try to mitigate the attack further.

We will provide updates to this issue going forward, and let you know if there is anything further to note.

Wow, looks like we need to fine-tune some things server-side, stand by while we work on a fix.

On behalf of the entire staff team, we'd like to welcome you back to PTP. The last few months have been long and tumultuous to say the least, but now we can finally put the downtime behind us and get back to doing what we do best. We realize how difficult these past few months have been for all of you, because trust us: it's been hard on us too.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated in our time of need. It is not lost on any of us how wonderful our community is and how overwhelmingly positive the community has been during theprocess. We will be arranging a donation validation system once things settle down, so that those of you who donated can claim your perks (to be announced at a later date).

TL;DR: PTP is still alive, and there will not be any data loss. We've been preparing to rebuild our infrastructure, but a donation drive will be necessary in order to do so.

Being that we're volunteer based, it will likely be a while before we return to full strength. The short of it is that it was just awful timing, above all else. I hope by the time we're back, the long-promised server migration will hopefully happen that has been on hold for a while now.

Once the server migration happens, things will be immediately be more stable so the extended downtime won't keep happening like it has been.

We're not going anywhere, we'll be back to full strength in the future and once we do, I'll ensure we hold some type of site event to apologize for the downtime. Probably the upload contest I've been mentioning for a while now, or maybe an extended freeleech event.
