Perhaps one of the most widespread practices that goes (relatively) unnoticed beyond Supreme Court aficionados and obsessives is what I call the “SCOTUS attorney switcheroo.” This is the change in counsel as a case travels from the lower courts to the Supreme Court. Although this may not – on the surface – seem like a very big deal, it has implications not only on the nature of what the court hears but what actually gets decided by the justices.

The Supreme Court on Monday night cleared the way for New York to go forward with the 2026 elections using the state’s existing congressional map. Over the objections of the court’s three Democratic appointees, the justices granted a request from a Republican member of Congress, a group of voters, and state election officials to pause an order by a state trial court that would have required the state to redraw the map to add Black and Latino voters.

A divided Supreme Court sided with the federal government on Tuesday in U.S. Postal Service v. Konan, a dispute over mishandled mail. Writing for a 5-4 majority, Justice Clarence Thomas explained that a law protecting the U.S. Postal Service from lawsuits over lost or miscarried mail bars lawsuits over mail that was intentionally misdelivered.

Wednesday’s arguments center on President Donald Trump’s attempt to fire Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, in August 2025. The lower courts have thwarted his efforts to do so thus far, but the Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to put those rulings on hold while Cook’s challenge to her firing continues. Seriously, why can’t they just put forth a U.S. constitutional amendment vote already? Call for a convention and vote on it. Do your fucking jobs. Oh wait, I know why. Because the GOP wants to control women and hates them. And the Dems want to use the threat of GOP banning it nationwide to fundraise. So they’ll never put forth a vote for an amendment.
