It’s like one giant Groupon to someone else’s dementia room and we’re all trapped inside.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Fox News doc says not enough ’15 to 19′ year-olds are having kids: ‘The fertility is down’English
7·8 days agoI’m sure they’re making that entirely up. No one is a super star on their first birth, let alone someone who is physically not finished developing.

2·8 days agoI think one other thing that’s super important to add on to this list is “desirable partners.” The current generation of young men have leaned hard into the alt-right pipeline while young women have become more left leaning as their rights are being threatened loudly and chipped away at globally.

14·8 days agoAnd guess who the fathers to those teen pregnancies are? It’s men over 20. Adding a layer of ick to what he’s lamenting.

News@lemmy.world•The third No Kings protests are expected to draw millions. Do they need clearer goals?
4·22 days agoTbh I think they really only slowed down because it was the absolute dead of winter.
This is a good point to bring up. My friend who is far less educated and her husband have awful jobs compared to me, but because they have generational wealth they are much better off in life. They have homes, land, etc all because they were passed down. At the same time, they would rail against being called privileged, but they could sell that home for half a million dollars and never go into the debts or put in the work others have to just to have a roof over their heads.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How many times a year do you wash your jeans?
1·1 month agoI wash my clothes after I wear them, each time. Unwashed clothes get a certain funk, even if they look clean. You can always tell when people do this. It’s a little metallic.

12·1 month agoI keep it together because a lot of young people are around me. But on the inside I’ve kind of given up on anything good and dread the next fucking crazy thing to come up.

Technology@lemmy.world•Uber is letting women avoid male drivers and riders in the USEnglish
131·1 month agoAnecdotally, last week I (middle aged lady) was approached by two strange men. One tried to grab me outside my work site, and one told me how lovely I was and asked for my number (in target). It’s much, much worse for young women. It’s not manufactured, unlike the doubt of women’s lived experience seems to be.
Yeah it’s like we had the same experience essentially. I guess they are designed to keep you single but that experience makes a lot of us nope out fast.

Streetwear@lemmy.world•What's stopping you from dressing like this???
3·1 month agoI would, but I’m 5 ft so I think the big jacket would be like one of those full body pajamas.
I considered this as well. It is a good point, so I read profiles. Many/most were self-identified as conservative , libertarian, moderate, non-political, or religious. In my area they’re almost guaranteed maga.

Autism@lemmy.world•Anyone notice how all (well intentioned) advice for autistic people is just "mask harder"?
30·1 month agoLearning how to pick up social cues in a rote way instead of an imitative way, essentially, is a treatment. I mean, I know it’s hard to pick up on norms and mores naturalistically with autism, and we should all be graceful and respectful of that as well. Just you know, if someone says something is rude or hurtful, that’s not an attack on your inability to judge that social situation by default…it is information. Even NT do impose expectations on other NT behavior across settings that is sometimes incomprehensible.
How it felt when I spent 5 minutes on hinge. I swear every person I saw on the guy side was very maga-esque. The glasses, the hat, the fish, the trucks, the balloon animal muscles.

Peertube@lemmy.world•Listen to your heart and get yourself some curly fries
2·2 months agoI keep some in the freezer and have cheese fries every Friday usually. And a melon Ramune. No regrets.
Those cups were delicious. Pretty sure it was also on a track suit. And Taco Bell.

I roll mine like a little sausage. They don’t wrinkle and it’s fast. Also I suck at folding.
