During the fall and winter of 2003-2004, Wascana Lake was again drained and dredged to deepen it by an average of about 5 metres (16 ft). The Big Dig, was primarily to decrease aquatic weed growth, improve water quality, and allow more competitive and recreational rowing, canoeing and paddling during the summer months.

After all, the government has been dropping hints it would do something like this since the two UCP-appointed members of the five-member commission came up with a minority report that would slice the province’s cities into pizza pies of “rurban” ridings, diluting the NDP’s vote. The thin edge of the slice would reach into urban areas, where the NDP is stronger, with the riding’s design ensuring they would be outnumbered by rural voters.
I would hope Albertans would recognize this as Marlaina robbing them of their democratic voting rights, but I won’t hold my breath.
