I taught myself by playing a license plate game, referring to the cars around me by their phonetic license plates “what’re you doing bravo whiskey foxtrot foxtrot? You’re turning right but indicating left!” It makes road rage more fun.

1·6 days agoI’m sorry you’re going through that, and can only imagine how much anger you would have towards someone you paid for care, who provided care below the standard you expected, and you have no recourse. Physical pain blows, too. Weird take to welcome sexual assault, but it’s clear how frustrated you are.

All this time, you lacked the vitamin D? And yet you persevered? Take my praise, stranger. I tip my hat to your resilience and gumption.

Yeah, the manager fucked up by providing too much info and wording it poorly. If it’s “you two have different skills and contribute to the team in different ways” that’s another story. If Marcus is also making sure the rest of the team feels supported and keeps morale high then that is work too! (As someone who often fills the emotional support human role, on top of regular duties, I’m glad that this could be recognized). Productivity is more than work output, and comparison is the thief of joy.
If the person is upset because they feel their workload is too high, or that they aren’t being compensated for their own work, then that’s a different convo they should be having.
That dewlap tho

Art@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Victor Hugo is best known as a novelist, but he was also a master illustrator. 70 years before the surrealists, he painted these with ink, soot, coffee, and blood
5·1 month agoSomeone on Lemmy told me that Dumas, because his work was published in serials, was paid by the word. I wonder if Hugo was the same.
That makes sense. I always feel like the people make the job what it is, and I just have a hard time reconciling how such horrific leadership can attract good people.
There’s so much to unpack here. Did you work for a company run by a supervillain? And yet enjoyed the work?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What age do you stop trusting the government?
1·1 month agoI fully endorse this point, but with an added caveat. The government is made up of people, just like any other organization, but there is often less money to be had in the public sector than the private sector (corruption notwithstanding) so often you wind up with people passionate about their work, but occasionally you have people who aren’t talented enough to hack it in the private sector.

I think it’s kind of funny that the headline views these as equal crimes.
