Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favourite book you were made to read in school?
3·19 hours agoProbably Fahrenheit 451.
The way that book predicted and depicted streaming as a vapid activity that will make you numb is what stuck with me most both then and now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel a kinship with people who drive the same make/model car as you?

first thought, but probably

Yep, but if you ask me to solve the same problem at different times I probably wouldn’t write the same code either.
A lot of the arguments people use against vibe coding sounds a lot like “You shouldn’t use a high-level programming language unless you understand the assembly it compiles to.”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most moving experience you've ever had?
2·2 days agoMuch better, thanks!
right but we have a significant portion of the population trying to privatize it, which by design makes it unequal
In the US, the quality of schools varies drastically based on where you live. There’s no guarantee that kids are getting a good education unfortunately

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most moving experience you've ever had?
63·3 days agoWas forced out of my rental at short notice (barely within the confines of law) because the landlord’s son got out of jail and she wanted to move him in. No advance notice, of course.
This forced me into a situation where I had roommates from hell. For approximately two weeks. Then said roommate called the electrician for something minor and one thing led to another and the house was condemned.
So I had to move twice in two weeks. That really sucked
EDIT: oh shit I read that as WORST moving experience, not most lol. I’ll leave this here for posterity I guess

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Back in the day you could find a forum post explaining exactly how anything worked, grey hat or not? Since then the internet has sanitized that out of existence. Should Lemmy revive that culture?
6·3 days agoThe single most important thing we can do is try to instill a sense of the rich history of collaboration in computing. That the internet is really about DIY and not passive consumption. We are users, not consumers, who should be free to inspect and modify the software we use.

2·3 days agoI’m trying to think of the last time they passed a law that actually helps people. I’m coming up with the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 lol.
That’s exactly how I treated my trip. “This trip is going to cost 400 dollars and not a penny more.” The fact that it didn’t was just a happy coincidence.

Ah yes, the two races: poor and white.
