This is a live recording of the 3rd gig marking my 70 years on the planet. Friday night was post punk rocknroll with the Irregulars in Ye Olde Rose & Crown in Walthamstow, Saturday night was Engl;ish Chanson at Crazy Coq's in Soho, & Sunday afternoon was a solo gig at the lovely Green Note in Camden. I think this is a really good quality live recording. I decided not to repeat songs, so ended up singing 59 different songs over the three days. Which might account for some of the misremembered lyrics & a few notes way too wayward even to be excused as jazz. But it also works best kept as a whole concert, because then you get the whole of the narrative. It's not exactly a story, but it does have a beginning, middle & an end.

The 23 songs here pay due acknowledgement to the latest two solo releases, The Optimist Hotel & Humbug25, but as well this newer material the set includes a fair number of old favourites, plus several songs - Man Walks Into A Pub, I Apologise & The London Eye - that I probably haven't played in over a decade (I had to change the key of I Apologise).

It was a lovely gig. It was sold out, & the lovely audience - as you will hear - sang along despite the dismal conditions outside. Green Note is the closest I think you might come to one of those fabled New York folk venues in the 1960s, only with a great PA & vegan peanut blondies. It's a pleasure & an honour to play there.
