I always find the human ascriptions of white/black to not mirror reality for me. Cool, dark, relatively still night associates with dark in my mind and has many positive connotations.
I am trying hard.

1·15 days agoThat’s one of the big things. Oftentimes you must do some searching to find a ride/location that fits your needs. There are all kind of forums and collectives to lower the barrier of entry for that. But you can always design your own ride by finding a national forest or state park with a bunch of gravel trails and parking up at the top and biking back into the game lands or park. More than I can realistically put in a comment here but it’s a whole thing.
I want to stress that there’s a high ceiling for making an interesting specifically tailored trip, but there’s also a pretty low interest threshold of just going to a place and making it happen.

2·15 days agoYou should find a place that is short and comfortable and do it.
Even if it’s just a fireroad headed up to a campsite with one interesting thing to look at in between.
Easiest way is to get a rack on the back of the bike and put some panniers on and a big set of straps on the handlebars to lash things to.

1·15 days agoDepends. For serious people it’s in the thousands for a trip.
For experienced casuals like me, it’s usually about 60 miles a weekend or maybe 60 miles a day depending on.
The bike in the picture is the only bike I ride on these trips.
Me like transport that is not car

2·16 days agoRecommend defaulting to a bike with rims that can handle wide tires. You could just drop a thick slick or some other slick tire, maybe even one with side lugs and get most of the way there. That way you leave yourself open for other options in the future.
I am in the US so I don’t know if it’s the same but there are a lot of really good used bike options here. Not sure for you. If you want to buy new though, there may be some benefit to getting a bicycle from a shop that is local to you so you can get support more readily. I wonder if any shops around you carry brands that are pretty good.
I have turned some old, uninspired bikes into really fun and dynamic machines. I think as long as the platform is reasonable you’ll have a lot of room to make the bike that you want.
Messing around at a trail. Sky is to the left out of shot.
