  • All true*

    * I remember that (yes, amongst a head filled with cabbage) you were explaining sometime back about the history of wheat (Triticum), in terms of developing major nutrient-loss across human-cultivation, and how even in the Middle-Ages, in which we tended to keep the most important nutritional portion (the germ and outer hull, etc), it was a pretty much in a massively less-nutritional form than the actual traditional form, which might have gone back… hundreds of K’s of years, or even… millions of years…?

All that posited… I’m still rather baffled why you seem to eat so much modern bread, which is essential junk food by all known measurables, not unlike white rice.

  • Oh, I thought it was more of a breaking-news thing based on recent, ongoing observations? (if not, then that’s what I get for not reading the damn article)

I remember not so long ago, the fact being presented that only rats and humans killed for unnecessary reasons. For example, outside of the broad, known idea that species could kill as part of a territorial / protection / etc thing. But based on what Goodall observed, some chimps seemed to have no particular reason to kill some others of their species. It was more of a ‘I just don’t like you’ kind of thing, IIRC.

  • Nice work, DohPaz and folks! I guess it will be interesting to see if the various beeps clean up their act across the other comics /c’s they post at…

Also, I confess a swell of jealousy about getting so many mod volunteers in past days. I haven’t had a single volunteer at my comics place over the years, altho of course it’s smaller (~1.1K users), and more niche than yours. Anyway, thanks for your efforts, here!

  • HS classmate of mine later went on to raise chickens, and said on FB that fresh eggs were miles better than just about all common store types. Maybe excluding Amish or Farmers Market? I have no way of personally checking that, as I haven’t been to my uncle’s chicken farm in many decades.

    What think?

I do know that in the States, the regulation is to remove the protective coating from the egg, making it look nicer, but also cutting down on its shelf life and necessitating refridgerating it immediately. So I suppose that also factors in to taste.

I generally follow storage instructions on the label, but it’s like smoking. Some people just get lucky and live a long life without any issues.

Thanks for expanding on all that. Far as I know, however, there are indeed some things that (according to best science) don’t actually need to be refrigerated in common climate situations, such as most forms of honey and peanut butter.

  • I like most of what you posted. I also don’t like some of the pictures posted by some other contributors and I agree with you: they are not in the spirit of the community. But like I was saying, they can honestly be mistaken and hopefully they can learn.

Oi mate, you seem like someone on the surface who seeks understanding at some level, perhaps diplomatically or for other interesting reasons, and I can certainly respect that, but HAIL NO- that was some needlessly-repetitive, low-effort shizzle that I highlighted right there. I.e. directly careless of the founding points of this community, as painstakingly laid out by the Dude, highlighted more than once by me matey.

And really, that doesn’t even tell the tale. Meaning, that it’s all very well (and I certainly don’t consider myself some posting genius) that I tried to carry on the spirit of the community for awhile, and that none of this wannabe drama really matters in the slightest. XD

Eh, bonne chance pour tout ça, ami, et tu sais où… hehe, me trouver, n’est-ce pas ?

  • Appreciate that, TT; I really do.

But the example cited is NOT of that ilk.

Reporting is good, I get it, but the painful reality is that all listed mod accts here are largely defunct, other than yours, occasionally. The point (as I see it) is still to figure out the mission of this place, state it clearly, then use community modding tools to encourage the stated rules.

I.e.-- that weirdo post should never have needed the report button in the 1st place.

I hate bitching upon this stuff, but… sometimes that’s how this shizzle goes? Unfortunately, I’m simply not available at this time to mod another community, but maybe someone here wants to step up to make the sidebar rules relevant again…?
