This must be from before Mamdani was mayor, because now there’s a bunch of things that can be pointed at to answer the question “what has New York ever done for me.”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you wash your hands after going pee?English
8·vor 2 TagenYes. Yikes that’s filthy. I mean I wash my hands throughout the day not just when I use the bathroom, as well. How do you prep and cook a meal without washing your hands to avoid cross-contamination between ingredients?
No, that’s how it feels to have a pi-hole with expansive blocklists and a wireguard VPN so I can access the pi-hole ad blocking from my phone wherever I am. I never see ads, even on my phone. uBlock and other browser based adblockers are great for computers, they’re less effective for phones whereas network adblocking like Pi-holes are super effective on phones.
Oh and also not having the gambling gene.
Dating a woman with inverted nipples is like having biological endless bubble wrap. Stimulate them and they pop out.

4·vor 3 TagenWhy not both?
I don’t think it’s actually meant to be a sequence of commands as much as each set of commands do the same things. I think the “->” is a delimiter that unfortunately makes one think this is some sort of flowchart, which it is not. The flow of both don’t really make sense, but each command, in order, maps to the others. Unzip = Extract. Touch = Create. Mount = Assign.
The joke really is as simple as the Linux commands all sound vaguely sexual and thus aren’t very appropriate for a workplace, whereas the Windows commands are named professionally.
The odd use of the “->” just distracts from that, they could have used a “/” or any other delimiter and it might have been a little clearer.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Are the homelab communities dead?English
111·vor 3 TagenWhere do all the lovely self-hosters here turn when they want to chat networking or server hardware?
I know this might seem like a strange answer, but… IRC channels on private torrent trackers. Many of the people on these sites actively have large and complex setups running. There often is a lot of talk about hardware for servers and networking in those IRC channels. Or at least there is on the trackers I am on.
I know that’s not necessarily a helpful answer to anyone not already in the private torrent tracker community, since its often quite a task to get involved if you aren’t already. However, it’s one that I have had great success with, personally. To anyone who already is on a private torrent tracker, if you haven’t checked out the IRC, give it a shot and see.
Oh and don’t forget you can self-host The Lounge for a self-hosted web-based IRC client.

News@lemmy.world•From Molotov cocktails to data center shutdowns, the AI backlash is turning revolutionaryEnglish
201·vor 3 TagenWhy did they change the title? The link still has the evidence of the original title:
https: //fortune. com/2026/04/14/ai-backlash-revolutionary-sam-altman-molotov-cocktails-data-centers/
But now the page shows this as the article title, which is a wildly different idea and tone:

Gone are the mentions of Molotov Cocktails and describing the backlash to AI as taking on a revolutionary ideology.
I saw this article yesterday with the original title and I remember thinking “Is it actually becoming revolutionary though?” Maybe they changed the title because it’s not.
