While you’re figuring that out: Just stop Piefed and backup all the files. This works while you’re building a better solution. For my whole server with more stuff it’s just a minute for the full backup and I wouldn’t mind a minute of downtime in the middle of the night.

I’ve even successfully migrated between those. Some settings or pre-installed apps might be different, so you should check your settings, but all apps will be there. In my case only the banking app wanted me to log in again, seems to verify some sort of device identifier.

Oh yes, those transports (https://slidge.im/) are very reliable. I’ve played with Matrix bridges a while ago, but never got to a reliable setup, so I’m very happy with Slidge + ejabberd now.

Don’t worry too much about deciding between Prosody and ejabberd, both are great and include a migration tool from the other. I’ve moved from Prosody to ejabberd, but mostly because I want to know both. :)
