1·1 day agoI just use Debian + virt-manager.
I can either use the shell or connect using the graphical tool, via SSH. Much simpler, much less overhead.

14·1 day agoWow, that’s just ridiculous.
“Here’s some free software that is non-free.”

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•Jolla Sailfish pitches a "European phone" for users wary of Google and AppleEnglish
2·2 days agoThe C2 is just a rebranded Reeder S19 Max Pro S, a cheap Android phone from a Turkish company.
Some people even buy the phone from Turkey and flash Sailfish OS onto it themselves.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•Jolla Sailfish pitches a "European phone" for users wary of Google and AppleEnglish
1·3 days agoYes, there’s no mainline kernel support. They just use the downstream kernel from the phone vendor. This also means they cannot provide security updates for longer than the device’s vendor, which in Sony’s case isn’t even much support at all.

6·3 days agoDebian. Works, proven, stable. “The universal operating system”, called that for a reason.

4·6 days agoI wish I knew what each of the Piefed compoments does.
While you’re figuring that out: Just stop Piefed and backup all the files. This works while you’re building a better solution. For my whole server with more stuff it’s just a minute for the full backup and I wouldn’t mind a minute of downtime in the middle of the night.

XMPP@slrpnk.net•Rssguard: Feed reader now also with XMPP pubsub supportEnglish
1·8 days agoIs there any good explanation about what PubSub is and what I can do with it?
I could read the XEPs, of course, but I’d prefer seeing what it can do over finding use-cases by reading specs.

1·9 days agoMany free roms such as CalyxOS, GrapheneOS, iodéOS include Seedvault.
I’ve even successfully migrated between those. Some settings or pre-installed apps might be different, so you should check your settings, but all apps will be there. In my case only the banking app wanted me to log in again, seems to verify some sort of device identifier.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•What do you think postmarket os can do with a yearly income of 1 million euros?English
2·9 days agoThey could hire people to work on mainlining but also work on convincing vendors to have patches ready and then be able to support them on launch and not years later.

ATOMentries. What does this allow to do? What’d be a use-case? Does that add something over other feed readers that’d be advantageous?

Yeah, I know, but that’s more fiddling around than using it. :p
It is indeed an unofficial build. GrapheneOS does not provide a GSI.

2·21 days agoOh yes, those transports (https://slidge.im/) are very reliable. I’ve played with Matrix bridges a while ago, but never got to a reliable setup, so I’m very happy with Slidge + ejabberd now.
Don’t worry too much about deciding between Prosody and ejabberd, both are great and include a migration tool from the other. I’ve moved from Prosody to ejabberd, but mostly because I want to know both. :)

Oh and mainlining is not that hard, actually. I started with the flash LED, it is the simplest component. The display support came a few weeks later. :p
I don’t even know C. I just add support for the things that can already work with the drivers that are in the kernel.
