we’re truly living through weeks when decades happen

The neat part here is that the energy shock hasn’t actually hit yet because tankers move at around the speed of a bicycle. The ones that left before the strait was closed are still on route. When the oil and gas they carry is gone and the next shipment fails to arrive is when real fun starts at the pump.

For sure, I found it kind of a depressing read too, but it’s such great analysis of how the media actually works.

China is just playing factorio IRL

I’m just going to shamelessly plug my explanation of dialectics :) https://dialecticaldispatches.substack.com/p/the-toolset-of-reality

So like absolute win for Spain then?

But also look at how the liberal mainstream is collapsing. The parties that are in power in France, Germany, and UK are all scraping the floor right now. It’s almost certain that they’re going to lose power to nationalists going forward.

It’s going to be hard to do since the US policy towards Europe isn’t going to change for the better after Trump’s gone. The most likely scenario that I foresee is the collapse of the liberal centre in Europe with nationalist parties getting into power.

Trump is himself a product of the declining material conditions. It’s not like he just appeared out of an alternate dimension. Opportunists like him have always been around, what changed was that people became so disillusioned with the the mainstream that they started paying attention to people like Trump. Things are going to continue on the exact same trajectory after Trump is gone, and the situation is likely going to be a lot worse by then. This whole notion that things will just go back to the way they were is a liberal delusion. Europe no longer has the value it once did for the US, and regardless who is in charge next, their imperative is going to be to continue divesting from and cannibalizing what they can of Europe.

I agree, it’s not really clear how tethered Trump is to our shared reality at this point. He might really be living in a universe all of his own.

It’s absolutely incredible to me that Europeans don’t understand that the whole proxy war on Russia is fundamentally against European interest. What I expect will happen in the end is that once Russia wins in Ukraine, we’ll see individual European countries start quietly making deals with Russia. Hungary and Slovakia are the obvious candidates here, but I can even see France doing it. The whole liberal mainstream is very likely to collapse at that point as well. If the EU tries to prevent countries from doing this, then there’s a really good chance they just exit the EU and flip over to BRICS.

Seems that even France wasn’t confident they’d get their gold back. What they actually did was sell the gold in the fed and bought new gold in Europe.

I can’t see the US allowing this to happen either.

I’m just hoping the EU collapses before that can happen.

western propaganda is very effective

My bet is that it’ll restart before the two weeks are up. Lebanon is being bombed right now, and Iran is closing Hormuz in response.

it really bothers me that people don’t care about this sort of stuff

which makes it all the more odd that the idea hasn’t seen wide adoption

ah then does sound like a bug in lemmy code
It’s notable that these Lego movies have so much momentum that even BBC had to cover them. Iran is absolutely killing it with their media game.
