  • An antique crystal vase my parents received as a wedding gift.
I was maybe in my tweens and bought flowers for some occasion (a birthday or anniversary maybe) and the florist said I should use boiling water to keep them fresh (yes, it is a thing), but obviously I misunderstood, and not knowing any better I added the boiling water directly in to the vase (which I chose because it was my favourite) and of course it exploded in my hand. Lucky I wasn’t hurt, and I did manage to glue some of it back together, but I was not getting away with it. My mother was furious.

  • Yeah, it really is easy to do, you’re not alone there… I can’t lie, I don’t know that any positive change will happen in my lifetime, but I’m confident it can happen at some point, so the best I can do is promote the ideas that I think will lead to the best outcome. The more people who are able to envisage solutions outside of our enforced and artificial systems and constructs, the better the chances of breaking free from them!

  • I agree, it is extremely concerning, and I hate to say it but if we continue as we are, I don’t know that it won’t be worse than ever by that point.

The key is education, community, solidarity. Learning to identify the artificial divisions and social constructs that are imposed on us and seeing past them, creating solidarity and support between groups and communities, uniting against our oppressors instead of against other people just struggling under them alongside us. It might seem impossible when our current world is all we know, but it can be better, we just need to see beyond the limits we’ve been set by those with a vested interest in keeping us captured and struggling.

  • It really is.
The tactics never change (sow division of the population against each other so they’re too distracted to fight those exploiting us all), and it’s by deliberately keeping people ignorant to, and constantly bombarded by these tactics, that those in power are able to maintain it. Having all of the knowledge we have at the tip of our fingers to prove this (and what it leads to again and again) is no use when it’s viewed by people who are deliberately not taught critical thinking skills and is completely drowned out by disinformation and conspiracy theories (which often get so close, and yet so far because it’s a lot less scary to think an “other” is to blame for everything wrong with your life, than your own government you’ve been indoctrinated to believe works for you, and economic system you’ve been conned in to believing is “fair”).

  • If it won’t let me untick all but the essential cookies easily - close tab, move on.

Recently I realised that some “reject all” options still don’t reject the “legitimate” bullshit, so I now avoid those sites too (and no, I don’t trust that extensions that claim to reject all for me will actually reject all).

I’ve got better things to do with my time than scrutinise these cookie pop ups and/or go through lengthy lists individually unticking options. Fuck that noise - don’t have minimal respect for users? Then I’m definitely not providing you any of my data (the sites that make it the hardest rarely hold information you can’t easily find elsewhere)…

  • Happened upon this film early this morning, as the description says, it’s scary how current it still is in the 2020’s, except today we have millions of “intruders” online in the shape of troll farms, as well as many plain old open and honest bigots, both of who are more than happy to scapegoat and actively harm marginalised people for their own benefit (however minor).

Sadly but expectedly this is more the story of a white saviour, than of the Black people being targeted, and the happy ending doesn’t resonate reality, but I think it’s still worth a watch.

    Sometimes.
If we’re playing or she’s clearly agitated, I wouldn’t, because I know she’ll get defensive and I’ll get hurt. But if we’re cuddly or she’s sleepy, then yeah, I’ve been known to creep up to/pick up the cat and blow a raspberry in that belly floof. Most I get then is a light paw tap on my head telling me to stahp lol
