World News@lemmy.ml•Qatar’s LNG Blackout Just Broke the Global Gas Market
11·1 month agoThis is a supply disruption at a scale rarely seen outside of war, siege, or widespread industrial disaster. And it’s happening not because of maintenance or economic shifts, but because of geopolitical conflict.
It’s definitely war at this point no need to sugar coat it.
Is there anyone that can help an out of the loop fellow such as myself? I know of the war but I have no idea how and why it started. I thought Israel was all over palestine as of late. And now everyone in the area and the USA are involved?
Not only do they get the credit, they also get tax benefits from the donation.
Update: Seems I am incorrect! Thanks for the polite discourse.

Hockey@lemmy.ca•Should the IOC have the USA and Canada redo the Gold Medal game in case it was a big fluke?
4·2 months agoI’m coping by saying the US gets the Olympics but the Stanley Cup comes home this season at the very least.
I’ve bought a hyperx cloud III and I’m having no issues. Feels solid and audio is good. No complaints about the microphone from my cohorts. Mine is wired but I believe they sell it wireless for a bit of a premium.

I don’t think there’s a guarantee you’ll be blind. It looks like you have a pretty decent astigmatism in both eyes and are reasonably farsighted. Those values are however quite small relative to some of the folks (especially the elderly) I’ve passed in and out of the optometrist.
As for no glasses giving you perfect vision, it’s hard to say without being an optometrist myself. I’d try hopping around to different optometrists to get different fittings and opinions. It is a bit of a gamble especially when eyes can change year to year.
Make sure to wear sunglasses when it’s sunny and limit excessive screen time and hopefully that should limit the negative changes to your eyesight.

Technology@lemmy.world•New nickel-iron battery charges in seconds, survives 12,000 cyclesEnglish
4·2 months agoI looked around and found that lithium ion batteries will range from 100-270 Wh/kg and up to 10 kW/kg.
So these particular batteries are sort of an improvement, less energy by weight but better power if I understand correctly. Definitely not an expert.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Europe's $24 Trillion Breakup With Visa and Mastercard
7·2 months agoFunny you mention piggybacking onto Europe as that was my first thought too! The way the article brought up simpler transfers and a digital euro made me think of Canada and e-transfers. There must be some way to make it work.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Europe's $24 Trillion Breakup With Visa and Mastercard
15·2 months agoIt would definitely be great to get away from Visa and MasterCard but Canada is significantly smaller than the EU population wise. Even the article says it will be trouble to reach a breaking point to make vendors acknowledge another payment method outside of common credit cards.
Love the idea and I hope the EU can make some waves to move everyone away from US tech.

I’d imagine there is some sort of minimum contribution? Or perhaps “eviction” from the group in the event of degeneracy. I can’t see a society running on an “everything is free, do what you like” mentality.
