The Liberals just voted down electoral reform at their convention a couple days ago.

Not everyone is sexually compatible. Better to find that out before involving a legal contract in your relationship, in my opinion.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Q+A: Sarnia-area Tory MP Marilyn Gladu on her defection to the Liberals
9·3 days agoQ: What rewards, if any, are you expecting for crossing to the Liberals?
Well, you can’t actually be offered anything. That would be illegal. So, I did not get offered anything but, watching for 10 years, people on the government benches tend to get more for their ridings and their projects. Interestingly, after I crossed, I had a call yesterday from the infrastructure and housing minister’s office wanting to get together and talk about the things we need in Sarnia-Lambton. I had sent (minister) Gregor Robinson, when I was re-elected in 2025, a one-page of all the things that lined up with his file that we wanted in Sarnia. It went really nowhere, until I crossed the floor. This is what I’m hoping will be the result.
Q: What will you tell your former Tory colleagues?
I have nothing but respect for my Conservative colleagues. People who know me, they know my views, and my views have not changed. This is one of the first conversations I had with the prime minister. I said listen, I’ve said a lot of terrible things about you and the Liberal caucus so how are we going to square that? I was super pleased to hear from him, ‘I’m not interested in looking into the past. I’m interested in looking forward.’ How are we going to build the country at this critical moment? How are we going to address these very important issues like the tariffs, like our defence? I think that is the right approach and, to me, it’s a fresh start. It doesn’t take away the things that I’ve said. I will be persuasive in arguing why we need to do things in a different way. I think the prime minister is open to that, I know colleagues that have welcomed me from the Liberal side are also open to that.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Analysis: Carney’s Liberals are attracting support from unlikely places
4·5 days agoGladu is no red tory. The CPC is very much her ideological home. We’re talking a reactionary who is against abortion, against vaccination, etc. who almost certainly ended her chances of getting re-elected with this move. She didn’t cross without being offered something.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Analysis: Carney’s Liberals are attracting support from unlikely places
11·6 days agoThere’s basically no reason for this one to cross the floor unless she was promised something in return. Considering I’m at odds with her on more or less any topic you care to name, I’m definitely not going to like whatever that is.

3·6 days agoShe’d probably fit in with the Greens, especially during May’s “wifi causes cancer” days.
That’s…A crazy reach. Gladu is a reactionary who definitely fit very well in the CPC. This is like if Leslyn Lewis or Rachel Thomas or someone like that crossed the floor.

Most people I think would agree it would be nice if we were a country mostly made up of native born citizens
And boy did I call it. I don’t care about my fellow citizen’s birthplace much at all, to be honest.

15·13 days agoWhen rail was first built across Canada it was done when Canada had a population of ~4 million and preceded most of our development. That’s what “nation building” infrastructure is about. Transportation infrastructure in particular has a huge role to play in developing that low density space.

No one’s talking about this but I don’t trust Carney with nationalized healthcare. There’s a reason Doug Ford feels so aligned with him. Trudeau hardly put up a fight with the provinces over this, I feel like Carney will support limited (at first) privatization.
