4·1 day agoI use a mini PC with a wireless keyboard and mouse. There are also remote controls for media PCs if you don’t want to use a keyboard and mouse.
Hurricane Electric provides free IPv6 tunnels. They will give you a /48 if you request it. I used them for several years before I got native IPv6. It does require a public IPv4 address, so it won’t work with CGNAT.
Now you can just buy a CH341 dongle and clip it onto the BIOS flash chip if you need to unbrick the motherboard. It’s easy as long as the motherboard uses an SOIC or DIP flash chip.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Dangers of California’s Legislation to Censor 3D PrintingEnglish
51·5 days agoMaking a gun is already illegal in California and Washington. This stupid law won’t make any difference. If someone is willing to break the law to make a gun, they probably are not going to follow this law either. 3D printed guns are rarely used to commit crimes anyways. It takes a lot of time and effort to get one to work well.
This is probably about companies like Bamboo Labs wanting an excuse to lock down printers even more. It will also make it difficult or impossible for smaller companies to sell 3D printers in California to get rid of competition.

2·5 days agoWith a 24MHz sample rate, there will be 30 samples per bit. The narrowest a pulse for the WS2812 can be is 220 ns, which will be about 5 samples. That’s more than enough to decode it.

Ask Electronics@discuss.tchncs.de•Sniffing WS2812 (Neopixel) bus?English
4·5 days agoThe WS2812 only runs at 800kbps. That’s well within the capabilities of one of those 24 MHz FX2 based USB logic analyzers that you can get for less than $10. Sigrok has a protocol decoder for the WS2812 LEDs.

I would be happy to have any fiber at all. The only options here are satellite and DSL. The DSL is basically unusable and only available to existing customers. I’m pretty sure the ISP wants to make everyone cancel so they don’t have to maintain the copper lines anymore.
