A friend pointed out the pineapples are bromeliads. This “flower” demonstrates it.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•My grandma has a 22 year old block of cheese
30·16 days agoWhen a friend’s parents passed away, he came over to start packing up their house. He found tartar sauce that could vote and little onyx-like bricks of partially consumed cream cheese in the fridge. The spice rack contained Owl Spices which were donated to the state historical society.

Technology@lemmy.world•GitHub hits CTRL-Z, decides it will train its AI with user data after all
351·17 days agoThis is why I moved everything in my repos to codeberg.org once the Github VP left leaving Microslop in charge. I figured this would happen.
Old chemists never die. They just fail to react.
Showed up for one summons and was told the trial they were trying to seat would run 4-8 weeks. I said “nope”. The woman didn’t even bat an eye and said “we can reschedule you one time for 6 months.” 6 months later, I was excused the night before.
The only time I was a possible candidate, the judge asked those who claimed hardship to write out why. I gave the listing of client sessions that I’d have to cancel for the 10 day trial costing me $1600. She excused me.
Someone else told me that during the voir dire screening, she stated that as a former IRS auditor she could tell when people were lying to her. The defense attorney excused her. I could use the same statement, as a senior IT system administrator in my job, I’m used to people lying to me about why their computers aren’t working. I’ve heard that attorneys don’t like engineers because they’re not easily swayed by emotion and tend to make decisions on rational facts. That could go either way depending on how prosecution or defense are planning on arguing a case.
I’m over 70, I’m exempt in California. Apparently as of 2024, there are 41 states with an age exemption.

politics @lemmy.world•There Will Be No Post-Presidential Peace for Donald Trump
11·23 days agoThis assumes he doesn’t die in office. How many Wiccans and cardiologists are preying for a blood clot?
Classic plot of most of the Reddit revenge and Youtube channels.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•If Happy Meals were availabe in The Federation, what toy would be included?
5·30 days agoDepends on if this is the Blake’s 7 Federation, in which case it’s likely some toy Servalan favors. If it’s the Star Trek universe, it has to be a “modified” tribble (that won’t breed).
Had a slug short out the power supply on an ancient Doorking security door. They don’t make that version any more so we upgraded both systems. Now AT&T is charging $350/mo just for the phone line, so these systems have to go. Don’t know what the HOA decided, but at least it won’t cost a monthly fee. Let’s just hope the HOA President stays in office as we use her Internet connection to run the entire complex’s network.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade tells oil tankers to go through the Strait of Hormuz: "Show some guts and go through that strait and do it"
10·1 month agoI wonder if Brian wears a condom when he does it.
So I assume you already got the matching t-shirts?
Better do it before that Helpful Little Clot makes it to his lungs.
Although if Steven Miller or Bannon die first, he’ll get a preview of everyone singing DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna propose bill to impose wealth tax on billionaires
16·1 month agoIf this happens, those billionaires will have fire some of the Congressmen and Senators on their payroll.
It’s for the best. I don’t think a probate court has ever adjudicated who inherits the Congressman when a billionaire dies.
I’d already planned on skipping this and looking at Colbert’s excerpts on his show. It wouldn’t be the same anyway without Speaker Nancy Pelosi golf clapping at his gibbering. And ripping up the written copy as a chef’s kiss.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Arizona Senate GOP passes bill that renames highway after Charlie Kirk
24·2 months agoI predict the Highway department is going to end up cleaning up a lot of poop off that highway. And people will be stealing signed announcing it’s name. Or shooting holes in those signs.
Trump is going to have the same problem with his gravesite unless it’s patrolled 24x7x365. A camera can be cut down, painted over, or otherwise destroyed. People will find a way to defile his final resting place. Eric and Don Jr. are going to spend so much money keeping that from happening at Mar-A-Lago.

I wonder if that’s been seen in infants. Lactose isn’t as complex molecule like wheat gluten, so it should be the same coming from Mom as from a goat or camel or a cow. If someone only reacts to cow milk, then they’re sensitive to dairy. Do they get the runs lactose-free milk?
