Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger has signed a bill that will cease renewals of license plates honoring Robert E. Lee and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Delegate Dan Helmer, who represents part of Fairfax County, sponsored the bill. House Bill 1344 says that all license plates still on the street are valid until their expiration, but will not be renewed.
“Virginia needs to end itself of being in the business of celebrating traitors who killed American soldiers to defend slavery,” he said in a video. “That’s not who we need to be as a country, that’s not where we need to go, and we’re going to finish the job of making sure that America is about celebrating all Americans, an inclusive vision for a country and democracy that is for all of us.”
Okay. Call me when a Republican Gov. signs a bill doing the same. This is just a shame it took that long.
Oh wow, what year is it?
