  • If I remember correctly, fats are very similar to plastics in molecular structure. The oils in pasta sauces get stained red, and in turn the oils like to hang on to the plastic, making them stained. It gets tricky to thoroughly wash all of the oils off the plastic because they want to stick together. One of the tricks I’ve heard to prevent staining is to spray plastic containers with regular non-stick pan spray before adding the pasta, so the clear non-stick spray oils sticks to the plastic before the stained pasta oils do.

This is also why you can wash a plastic container and sometimes it still feels a little oily or takes finger prints easily.

  • It’s rather yellow so an enriched bread? Egg yolks will do that, so is “French Toast” suggesting that egg has been added somewhere (since the traditional custard bread would be dipped in for French toast contains egg?)

I’ve also seen “French Toast Bagels” before which are basically a richer, sweetened/vanilla/maple flavored bagel. Maybe they were going for a similar “French Toast” flavored slice of enriched bread?

God, I’ve already put far more thought into this than I should have.

Edit FUCK! BUT WHY THE PIZZA?!?!?!?

  • While I’m cooking the eggs (I use a $10 egg steamer I bought years ago for fully cooked eggs I’ll want to use cold) I’ll throw a random large bowl in the sink. I’ll throw a clean reusable ice pack in the bottom of the bowl and cover it with cold water. When the eggs are done I’ll put them in the cold water for at least 10 minutes, though honestly usually way longer because I’ll be doing other things while making the eggs lol.

If I’m planning on peeling all the eggs right away, I’ll crack the shells lightly before putting in the cold water. This seems to let some water seep under the shell as they cool and helps with peeling as well.

There are numerous physical mental issues that bring someone to be that significant of a size. To break beyond the mental health issues to prioritize taking care of yourself and becoming healthier can be incredibly difficult. If you feel like a horrible piece of garbage and that the world thinks you’re a horrible piece of garbage, that only serves to make it harder.

You have to start somewhere. To allow yourself to be okay with your body and except where it is now can help give someone acceptance to feel okay enough with themselves to actually start making progress.

  • There are so many ways to get to the final product anymore, it really comes down to how much you want to fiddle with it and what you can spend.

I bought a discounted refurbished Breville Bambino Plus 5 years ago. It doesn’t have all the fancy adjustments but it’s faster and tastier than my drip machine and I just have to push a couple buttons. With enough money there’s even fully automatic machines that you dump beans in and the machine does the rest.

All that said, fuck Nestle, fuck Nespresso.

I LOVE Chicago dogs, but the celery salt is a deal breaker. It tastes like someone handling industrial chemicals mishandled my food. I’ll put ketchup on it before celery salt.

(For the record, I really don’t give a hoot if someone wants to put ketchup on their hotdog, and if people like celery salt, more power to you. Personally though, the flavor is absolutely offensive.)

  • Correct - my best ELI5.

When you wake up your body starts producing adenosine, which slowly locks into receptors in your brain. As the day goes on, these receptors fill. By the end of the day your receptors are full which tells you you’re tired and need to go to sleep. When you sleep, these receptors clear to start the next day fresh (which is one of the reasons if you don’t sleep well, they don’t all clear and you start the day tired.)

Caffeine fits these receptor sites, preventing the adenosine from locking in and delaying the onset of fatigue. Caffeine half life is about 5-6 hours, which can lead to the “crash” as the free adenosine starts locking into the receptors the caffeine is now making available as it breaks down.

When caffeine is consumed regularly and the brain isn’t detecting the expected adenosine feedback, it responds by creating more receptors. More caffeine is now needed to account for the new receptors. If you skip caffeine with the addition of receptors, the adenosine fills the extra receptors faster and leaves you comparitively more fatigued/with withdrawal symptoms. If you reduce/abstain from caffeine for a few days the extra receptors are reduced and you return to baseline.

As a massage therapist on any given work day, I probably wash my hands 20+ times a day. I do apply lotion regularly but it’s so hard to keep up. Miss a day? In the winter?!? Definitely cracked skin around my knuckles. At best I still have to watch the types of fabric I wear. That feeling of fabric snagging on tiny invisible imperfections on my skin 😣.

  • They need to be.

On one hand I’m fully against plastering shit all over the place for someone making minimum wage to be stuck cleaning that garbage off the pumps, but on the other hand in some moments I crave the pettiness.

Remember, the higher quality plastic coated stickers peel off intact. It’s the cheap shit that continues to tear and it’s hard to get off.

To expand on “it’s only an issue when it happens to them”, having been raised in a very conservative environment I was told that bad things happened to bad people, and that if something happened to a “good” person, there was probably something we just didn’t know about. That thinking offers a false sense of security because as long as you’re not a bad person, bad things can’t happen to you.

It usually takes something bad actually happening to you to break the illusion and get someone to actually start questioning their world, which is hard work. Life is so much easier to live with your head in the sand.

  • I’d say it depends. I’ll admit to spending inconsistent amounts of time a day on shorts. Some days none at all, but some (typically stressful) days I’ve probably lost 1-2 hours. The content I’m getting is mostly cooking, horror movies/gaming, education, and health and fitness related. Through it I’ve found content creators with podcasts and have found some motivation to make exercise an achievable part of my daily life.

Is there a sea of toxic bullshit out there? Absolutely. But there’s also some freshwater lakes and rivers. It’s why media literacy needs to be included in education along with critical thinking.

  • Working in hospice, I regularly come across patients/family members who actively seem to avoid anything that could potentially challenge their beliefs.

Step one, vote orange because R. Step two, remove anyone or anything from your life that makes you uncomfortable or requires reflection. Step three, exist comfortably with your head in the sand while the rest of the world burns.

  • I once worked at a place that offered three vacation days per year. The only catch was, to use your paid days you had to work a separate shift for each day you took off. So ultimately if you wanted to have 3 days off, the week before and the week after you might not get a day off because of the extra shifts you had to work. Just how is that taking time for yourself again?
