“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” Professor Faber

  • I do see the similarities in the middle one. Probably a good idea because it is recognizable enough already.

I like the top middle because mohawk hair. I like the bottom middle because as a person from the US, I’ve known far too many white pride dillholes, so I love seeing them get stomped.

  • Apparently, I could give a TED talk on insects and spiders. I could literally sit and talk about or look at bugs all day every day.

It’s springtime in my area and all the cool bugs are coming out. I have a macro lens for my phone that I’ve used to take pictures of praying mantis nymphs and jumping spiders. Last year I had a cool looking green lynx spider that I tracked in my garden from a tiny baby to a gorgeous ambush predator to a male eating cannibal to a big red mama with 2 egg sacs and all her tiny babies. I loved that beautiful lady so much and I hope at least one of her babies makes it back to my garden.

My colleagues have started requesting pictures and cool facts about bugs at our weekly team meeting and I have been more than happy to oblige. It’s been mostly how to identify the sex of a spider, anatomy of spiders and insects, and the lifecycle of praying mantises. I should probably sit down and document my journey with my green lynx friend soon too, that would be fun to share.

  • Whenever I see someone asking for book recommendations, I always seek out comments like yours or make one if I don’t find it.

His Dark Materials aka Northern Lights (Golden Compass in US) is a really good one. I was 12 when I read the first one. It’s such a good story and I remember anxiously waiting for the 2nd and 3rd books to be published. When my friends started reading HP #1, I was already 2 books deep into HDM and was fully engulfed in Lyra’s story. HDM is a superior series that I think all children should read.

I read it again as an adult and realized how much those books really shaped my world view. Philip Pullman is an amazing storyteller.

  • Yes! But usually only when I’m driving. It’s either NPR or a local alternative station out of TJ. The local station is one of the only places I have heard Social Distortion, MxPx, Green Day, and some new rock band. It’s pretty fucking great.

I have started carrying cds in my car again, too. I’ve found quite a few great albums for $1-3 at thrift stores (great for Blu-rays too) or ripping CDs I borrow from the library. I also have a small mp3 player loaded with a bunch of music I’ve ripped or downloaded.

And I have AppleMusic for anything else.

  • I also appreciate your thoughts!

Completely off topic from the original post (sorry), but that’s the type of man who only sees it as vapid women complaining about fashion. It’s why they always link to The Gap or Old Navy or Amazon search results. Every. Single. Time. They think it’s easy and that they are helping, women are just being silly and complaining about fashion.

Every woman I have noticed who argues about pockets, especially in jeans, comes from a place of utility. It shows the man’s misogyny when that type of framing is used to argue with women about this topic. Pretty little girls want pretty jeans so we can be pretty and attract a man.
