  • Cis and transgender people, as well as intersex and other gender nonconforming people, not just women.

Trans men are being denied hormones and used as a template to remove access to reproductive healthcare for people who need it. Intersex people are being denied bodily autonomy and used to make official policies that determine people’s gender for them. Gender non conforming people who may not ID as trans are being punished for appearing outside the norm and used to fearmonger about social contagion.

I am not trying to say trans women don’t need support, they absolutely do. But this also impacts more than just them, and focusing on only women when many other people who are often erased are also affected adds to that erasure. If something affects more than just trans women, then the other people suffering should be included in statements made about it.

  • I personally find meaning in doing what I can to make the world in general better. I view being a “steward of the earth”, as it were, as being enough of a meaning to my life. Not for religious reasons, but because any bit of help I can do makes a difference to people and causes I care about.

In the era we are in now, with me being in the US, I am describing this feeling as being like a nurse in hospice. Several of my family have been either hospice nurses or patients, and it informs a lot of my view. Even if the little things I do don’t “cure” or “fix” anything, it makes life more comfortable for someone who needs it. I do more when I can, but this helps me not feel useless during times I can’t do more.

  • NGL, as a pagan myself, it is disrespectful both to pagans and to the women who were murdered in witch trials to pretend that they were actual witches. The overwhelming majority of women killed in the so-called “witch trials” were not doing anything that could be considered witchcraft, and they would consider being called a witch an insult.

We can condemn this bullshit without disrespecting these women by forcing a term on them that they would never have used themselves.

  • There are a lot of edgy athiests using all their time attacking trans people these days, because an unfortunate number of them are mainly athiests as a way to hate Muslims. And the ones taking the time to attack trans people have almost all joined the alt right, which has been responsible for a lot of attacks on innocent people.

They may not be killing in the name of atheism, but they have been in the same of “reason” and “defence of women”.

  • Just recently discovered I am on the aromantic spectrum myself. I always experienced relationships as essentially close friendships. I still feel love, I still like things people would consider romantic, but there is no line between “friend” and “dating” for me, aside from the comfort of the other person.

Realizing this and coming out as arospec was harder that when I came out as trans or when I came out as nonbinary. Mostly because I was now married, and trying to figure out how to convey “I am aromantic, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love you” in a way another non-aro person can understand is difficult.

  • Unfortunately there are a lot of people, including other trans people, who will insist that even if it is a trans man. It mostly comes from radfem types that view trans men as ‘joining the enemy’, and they usually accuse femboy trans men of transitioning in order to selfishly escape society’s misogyny.

Source: me, a very femme transmasc person who has had this thrown at me both online and in person, even in queer spaces.

  • In today’s political climate, when there are several groups trying to paint China as completely and uniquely evil in every sense, it is important to note that similar actions have been taken by other nations against them.

Additionally, from the opposite angle, by providing examples of times when other nations did similar horrible things, it shows both that the information is plausible and that China definitely knows what the result of this will be. This arguably makes it even worse, given that they have seen the way that lives can be ruined by addiction and overdose when supplied with these substances.

The poster you replied to said nothing except stating the fact, and too many people don’t know their history and are apt to think that situations like this are only a part of modern history. If he brought up an unrelated bad thing someone had done, that would be derailing, but providing this information opens up some real discussion about how this happened and how to deal with it.
