I honestly don’t know anymore. I though I had a really diverse music taste and I especially love abnormal noises in music, but then I used musicbrainz to categorize all my music and found out the basically everything I listen to has the Avantgarde genre. I don’t know if that’s supposed to mean I’m on the far edge of adventure and listening to only the most experiential of music or if I’m so narrow in my niche that I only listen to music considered too weird to categorize.

431·1 day agoIf you use aquarium silicone adhesive, they won’t be damaged, the adhesive is weather proof, and the silicone gives a flex and wiggle that prevents sheering. We had a dime stuck to our porch for 8 years and when it finally came up, it was because the concrete had eroded underneath it.
My dad taught that one to me in high school. He stuck $1.50 in random change to the ground in front of the soda machine at the apartments he was groundskeeper for. On slow days he’d sit and watch the local kids try desperately to get a free soda with money they can’t pick up.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When in time did America gave up trying to be great? Gave up as the example for the world? And now we are on our backs and refuse to get up like Bender off Futurama or a turtle?
202·1 day agoFrankly, day one. The idea that America was ever an example to the rest of the world is American revisionism. If you actually look at American history you’ll see the current American administration is very in line with the way we’ve always been.

12·2 days agoWe literally don’t know! There’s a while anthropological study called child lore that focuses on the almost universal things that children share with each other and we still can’t actually find the origin of this.
My theory is it’s the true form of the yellow sign, the Lovecraftian rune that allows the eldrich being, Hastur, to exert his influence on mortals.

But actually the big thing that helped me was sitting down and assessing why I wanted to correct this stuff. It never gave me any satisfaction, it never lead to anything I liked, and a good deal of it was likely venting trauma from being talked down to all my life. Once I put it together it just kind of stopped happening.

To add in here, what’s the ups and downs or joining a server vs hosting your own?
For like 2 years after I switched to DDG it was so much better than Google. It still pulled all the obvious things, but DDG would get me the very specific things that Google obviously wants dead. Stuff like niche forum sites and dubious piracy content. Lately though, DDG just gets a wall of poorly made AI generated sites. I liken my search efforts to trying to block all the moe communities on Lemmy, each one you bonk turns into two more.
Anyone have a better option? Because I’ll take it

So, my knee jerk reaction here is anger but I think you have enough of that in the posts. I actually work in the mental health field, and if you’d like some actual information coming from actual professionals, backed by actual research, as well as a hefty dose of lived experience, hit me up. Autism is more my spouse’s field, I’m the ADHD guy, but I’m more than happy to share just for the chance that it might help someone with autism down the line.

2·4 days agoIdeally for things like upcoming calendar events or notes on Homehub, maybe spec updates or added media, though jellyfin already gives us updates on that. Really just a reliable software that will send us a text or notification popup on our phones that I can connect other software to.
Because decades of propaganda has conditioned us to do so. They couldn’t attack communism because the ideals of communism are actually great to 99% of the population, so instead they painted communism with the blood that people abusing communism shed and told us all it was the nature of the beast.
I do not know if it’s my genuine and jaded opinion or my programming as a USian, but I also have a distaste for Communism. The ideals are all that I want in the world but I can’t think of any situation where it wasn’t immediately transformed into authoritarian or destroyed from the outside. It feels half baked, so close to done but lacking the internal structure to transition from the representative system we’ve been using since gods ordained kings. Without that, bad actors will always have an easy access to power and like a cancer they are not so readily cut out when they metastasis.
Personally, I think the only way to organize more than 50 humans is to take humans out of the equation. Power will always encourage the darker impulses of man, so why let it be the option? I’d propose technocracy. None of this llm bullshit, no AI singularity, just statistics, data, and analysis processed by an open source, fully transparent, machine. We know population statistics to a fraction of a percent, how do you gerrymander if the computer can district a state to have functionally identical population distribution. A token representative body selected by the machine from each district for their abilities to maintain the machine and update it prevents cult of personality from putting the unqualified in power. Changes to regulation can be posed and voted on by text, no human hand to disqualify you for a hanging chad. Changes preferred are implemented in the best statistically possible way as long as they don’t go against the core principle in the computer. All of this could be run on the server I use to run jellyfin, most of it has been proposed to the government multiple times over the last 50 years, but why would a man release power to a thing that would destroy him?

Fun fact, baby carrots aren’t babies at all. They take any carrot that doesn’t fit their classic 🥕 shape and put it through a machine that cuts them to length and lathes them into the tiny rounded dowels we know and love. The inventor of the machine was inspired by his wife wishing she didn’t have to cut and peal carrots for recipes.
They’re not babies, they’re the dismembered bits of any healthy plant that dares not conform to the advertised, mass appeal standards of consumer products, mechanically processed and sold to us with a marketable name.
