2·3 months agoPlaying in VR made me realize how poorly pancake mode gives you a sense of scale. Everything is subnautica is absolutely massive. Peepers’ eyes are the size of dinner plates
Emphasis on nice. I would much rather receive a single pair of nice merino wool socks or something with a neat design than a 10 pack of Walmart white crew socks.
I’m experiencing post-coffee gut contraction as we speak!

4·4 months agoJourniv has got me to try journaling seriously for the first time. I’m a bit envious of those able to do so naturally, I’ve been forgetting to make daily entries more often than not

7·4 months agoOne of our recent council meetings had a developer wanting to rezone a lot to medium density but needed a variance to allow for less parking given the size of the parcel.
Council unanimously approved the rezoning citing the need for more medium density projects, but were completely divided on the vote for the parking variance. They could not fathom that a developer would know best how many parking spaces would be needed to still be functional and profitable. All they wanted was to reduce the requirement from 1.5 spaces per unit down to 1.25 spaces per unit. A decrease of like 9 spaces total.
Luckily the variance was eventually approved but not before a lot of debate and grandstanding about what people are supposed to do with their cars.
Biking through unplowed snow sucks, but it’s hardly impossible. The worst part about it is having to deal with traffic at the same time

14·5 months agoYou’ve received a tonne of responses and I’m not even sure if this has been posted by someone else already, but there’s a YouTube video called “How to Radicalize a Normie” which goes over at length exactly how the alt right gets its hooks into young people and why it’s so hard for them to break out.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I just wanted to compare FOSS Linux budgeting softwareEnglish
4·5 months agoI’ve been using Actual for a while now, probably close to a year. Before that I was on YNAB, which isn’t FOSS but does have a huge library of material for how to make your budget work for you instead of the other way around.
I got off YNAB after they kept raising their subscription fees for seemingly no reason. Actual is not nearly as feature-rich but you can’t really argue with the price.
This is a big pet peeve of mine and it does such a disservice to socially anxious extroverts

I’m not sure why anybody would go out of their way to use a thorn in every instance instead of th, except to be obtuse.
