3·30 days agoyou call them or just show up. It’s like the 2000s out here.
TIL: I’m living in the 2000s and didn’t realize it. 😅
Yeah, this is what I do. Sometimes I show up and the place is closed. I wasted 30 minutes driving there. It’s annoying. But, not so annoying that I want to use FB. (For me personally. I understand people have different tolerances.)
I’m older, I guess, this is just what we did when we were growing up.

1·30 days agoYeah, I guess you’re right actually. You pay money and get more features. I tend to think of subscriptions for Open Source more as donations, but Fluxer is a little different.
But, yeah, like someone else said, you can self-host and not pay anything and get access to everything. Did I mention it’s fully Open Source without a CLA?!

4·1 month agoWhen I was driving in Mexico, I learned this is possible! They’re very consistent with this.
California (not sure about other US states) on the other hand … people will purposely drive in the left lane, block traffic, and then get mad at you when you pass them on the right.

21·1 month agoGrowing up in a small town, this is exactly what we did. I was absolutely shocked to learn that people ride bikes ON THE ROAD! Right next to the big metal death machines!! 😱
I see why bikes on the road make sense for high density areas… but it sure seems weird in smaller towns.

4·1 month agoDid you guys also consider Fluxer? I tried Stoat first, but the main instance is really slow and there are some video features disabled due to high cost. Which is totally fair.
Fluxer seems to have more features and their main instance is a lot snappier. They’re also accepting donations via Plutonium. Which seems to be helping with the server costs.
Both are AGPLv3, with Fluxer recently saying they’re gonna remove their CLA so that it’s true Open Source.

Fluxer IS planning federation. https://blog.fluxer.app/roadmap-2026/
Actually, one thing I want to do is switch from services being on a subdomain to services being on a path.
immich.myserver.com -> myserver.com/immich jellyfin.myserver.com -> myserver.com/jellyfinI’m getting tired of having to update DNS records every time I want to add a new service.
I guess the tricky part will be making sure the services support this kind of routing…
I’ve been using Signal more to test if I can recommend it to other people… it’s mostly like WhatsApp, which is good…
Except, can we please disable all of those god damn popups. Everyday: “Hey! Verify your pin!”, “Hey! Verify your LONG ASS recovery key!”, “Hey, plz donate!”, “HEY! I couldn’t start a backup”, “HEY LOOK AT ME!”
What are they gonna do next? Start up their own Lemmy and Mastodon servers???!!!
Uhh… Sure, I’ll try the super salad…

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changesEnglish
11·1 month agoIt’s crazy they didn’t before.
It’s really hard for everyone everywhere to vet AI’s output. It’s impossible if you’re not already an expert in the subject matter.
You think my brother is fact checking ShitGPT when he asks it about taxes? Most of the time, he immediately believes the answer is 100% right. If it’s something particularly important to him, he thinks he’s smart and adds something like “Don’t make stuff up. Don’t lie. Cite your sources.” And then that erases all doubt he had.
My manager has recently shat out 2 VERY large code changes in our codebase. He basically just shat it out and said, “Please review to make sure it’s right.” You know how hard it is to verify something you didn’t write? Nobody hit the weird edge cases while writing it. Nobody read the documentation on how to use this tool or library, so we don’t really know how this library works.
Then there’s reviewing for tech debt. Nobody typed out the code, which made them realize this code was shit because it’s super verbose. Nobody swapped out the implementation mid-way through because they realized there’s a better way to do it.
And I’m supposed to “review” a 1000+ line change? Realistically, not happening.
Yes, the reviewer is supposed to catch stuff. But, previously the writer also had some responsibility and built trust over time. This person is very meticulous or this person tends to make lots of mistakes around X. I trust Alice tested the edge cases. Bob told me he was worried about X part of the code.
But now the writer just lobbs some shit over the wall and the reviewer has to do all the work.
Again, realistically, not happening bro. I got my own shit to work on. If someone can’t be bothered to write something, then I can’t be bothered to read it.
LGTM, whatever. I don’t care. Let it blow up.
