Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you call this type of person?...English
1·27 days agoMany ‘types’ of people show lack of empathy and callousness and are abrasive. Types don’t matter, calling them out on those matters even less. Traits are helpful though and I’d stick with those as a shield to help yourself in understanding and processing why it is that a person makes you feel that way.

Autism@lemmy.world•What's the relation between Autism and ADHD? Why are both often related?English
1·29 days agoI don’t think people consider both conditions to be the same spectrum as it then would define the same condition. There might be overlap within the observable behaviour but the neurology that leads to these behaviours is not the same.

37·2 months agoThat’s painful to read. Hope you are able to untangle yourself from that mess.
I did not know that, I assumed they wrote pipx to mean pip/pip3. Thanks for pointing that out.
That might work but it is recommended to not install packages outside of virtual environments as it might lead to conflicts between versions across different projects.
You can run it in an virtual environment:
python -m venv someproject
source someproject/bin/activate
Then you can run the commands in the git README you posted.
pip …
Will will install the include files needed within this virtual environment. Alternatively you can do
apt install …
Instead of using pip. Your python script should run within the virtual environment.

The Trump-Epstein Files™@lemmy.world•Sick to my stomachEnglish
7·2 months agoI wouldn’t worry about it. If you were handed money and became a billionaire you wouldn’t turn what you read about regarding those files. People with certain proclivities such that they prioritise their greed as to accumulate so much wealth and power above anything else have personality traits that align with those abhorrent behaviours. Or are raised by people with strong personality traits that then are passed on. Handing someone a large amount of drugs randomly does not turn them into an addict automatically. Obviously it is way more complex than that because personalities are complex but most people try to do good by their community but there are exceptions and unfortunately those are the people selected for when it comes to wealth and power distribution.

2·2 months agoThat is an interesting experience you described with the use of cocaine. I’m trying to understand this: would you say, while on a dopamine agonist you’d up the dose of cocaine as to reach the same effect when not on it if you’d feel compelled to do so?

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•'My husband stole £600k for sex and antiques' - drug side effects tearing families apartEnglish
21·2 months agoThe drug is Pramipexole and it has this weird side effect that has been well documented:
Pramipexole (and related D3-preferring dopamine agonist medications such as ropinirole) can induce “impulsive-compulsive spectrum disorders”[20] such as compulsive gambling, punding, hypersexuality, and overeating, even in people without any prior history of these behaviors.[21][22][23] There have also been reported detrimental side effects related to impulse-control disorders resulting from off-label use of pramipexole or other dopamine agonists in treating clinical depression.[24] The incidence and severity of impulse-control disorders for those taking the drug for depression are not fully understood because the drug has not been approved for the treatment of depression and the first major studies of its efficacy in treating anhedonic depression were conducted in 2022. There have been anecdotal reports of abrupt and severe personality changes related to impulsivity and loss of self-control in a minority of patients regardless of the condition being treated, although the incidence of these side effects is not yet fully known.[24]>
From Wikipedia.
This of course does not diminish the suffering of those affected.

1·2 months agoThe demise of Rapa Nui’s civilisation (Easter Islanders) is not because of deforestation, but because of colonialists. Prior to the encounters they were triving with agriculture despite (rather because) of deforestation. This was done to yield larger farm land and not because of a misguided goal to move some statues.
Saying they had it coming because they cut down their trees is colonialist propaganda and denies the folks of Rapa Nui to be victims of plundering and kidnappings.

1·2 months agoThe subset of people who act on those abhorrent drives because of powerplay facilitated by wealth (or other power imbalances) is larger than those that act on it because their inherrent need but lack the means: the former contains people who would otherwise never considered such transgressions. If I’m not making much sense perhaps I can try to formulate it like this: the minimum age someone considers acceptable decreases with each million they accumulate, starting with some base age. That base age might or might not be already below what is socially or legally accepted.
Power corrupts. Becoming extremely wealth is becoming mentally ill (or the other way around) and it’s time people see it like that instead of a fucking virtue.

Reminds me of Türkmenbaşy. Grandious narcisisim disguised as politics.
