Technology@lemmy.world•Valve Sued By The Performing Rights Society Over Music Rights in Games Valve Doesn’t Make or OwnEnglish
2·1 month agoIf the games are using the music in violation of copyright and valve acquired it and is selling it, the distribution rights part of copyright law allows the copyright owner to sue anyone in the supply chain. If the music was originally licensed properly, then PRS is just looking for a settlement.
Once you purchase a legally distributed work, you are protected by the first sale doctrine, which allows you to do pretty much whatever you want with your single copy.

1·3 months agoI got an .org domain from hover.com for $16/yr. They knock $5 off for the first year. They price domains based on popularity of the tld so that can get expensive. Whois privacy is standard and you can buy additional add-ons

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•PC Gamers Abandoning Windows 11 for Linux with Higher FPS & Fewer InterruptionsEnglish
7·3 months agoI switched to Linux full time almost two years ago when Win 10 started saying my CPU wasn’t supported. My CPU is in the i7 family and I think they all got that treatment. Since then I’ve had no major issues with Linux Mint. As for gaming, I do get some frame drops with my Nvidia 3060, but I was getting the same on Windows.

3·4 months agoThe Land of Oz is home to all kinds of fantastical creatures, some of which are living objects. I remember in particular the Glass Cat and the Sawhorse. There is also a region entirely peopled by porcelain figurines, so it’s not really a stretch to think that the Emerald City would be prepared for any manner of being.

2·4 months agoThe first picture on this blog is an example. https://www.proswimwear.co.uk/blog/the-swimmers-guide-to-buying-a-tech-suit/ That suit is probably the least bad among the leading brands. And that’s not just coloring on the suit, it’s actually see through.

4·4 months agoThis happens in swimming too. The racing suits that the girls wear (called tech suits) need to be very form-fitting to get the best streamlining in the water. What they don’t need, however, is translucent body panels that make the girls look like they are wearing bikinis underneath. It’s gotten better in the past couple of seasons where they are offering different patterns and colors of suits. But the problem remains with the basic black suits.
The only routine sound issues I have on mint is the output settings don’t stay the same through a reboot, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to permanently disable output for monitor speakers that I don’t have (eg HDMI sound).
