A long way...
A long way...
A long way...
A long way the wrong way, good heavens,
But, hell, here we are.
Might say couldn't get any more depressing,
Tomorrow's like "brother, hold my guitar."
The chorus proceeded with a blessing,
Sure only to inspire,
Downwind of the musical infection,
Girls, yall singing to the choir.
Bah bah ba ba ba bah...
La doot da do do doo...
Listen kid, take it from me,
It's sick but not sick as in good.
Walked into 7-11
To treat my fevered brain.
Load up on popsicles
And acetaminophen.
Bah bah ba ba ba bah...
La doot da do do doo...
Listen kid take it from me,
It's gonna take it to you.
The dance that you hope you never get down with,
And I'm sure I still don't have,
But my hands are shakin, boy,
Like an old family photograph.
Bah bah ba ba ba bah...
La doot da do do doo...
Wish we could get this
Whole thing figured out soon.
A long way...
A long way...
A long way...
A long way...

Hammerhead
05:19
|
|||
|
Rapid eye,
Starboard side,
Cast away on a midnight tide.
ICU,
I arrive
To see if the Captain's still alive.
Pulled curtains,
Uncertainty blinks every light with dread.
Safe harbor
Seems farther
Than the water just a few feet underneath your feet above the Hammerhead.
Well well, we meet again.
Oh hey, how have you been?
I hardly recognized you without your dorsal fin.
Remember when you thought that you'd go for a little swim?
Your skipper said no, and what happened then?
I saw you stalk across the surface,
And here I am with the same purpose.
But this time, I'm sorry,
It's the end.
Rapid eye,
Starboard side,
Cast away on a midnight tide.
ICU,
I arrive
To see if the Captain's still alive.
Pulled curtains,
Uncertainty blinks every light with dread.
Safe harbor
Feels farther
Wait a minute, Mr. Hammerhead!
I'm still the one who's at the helm,
I sound the horn, I crack the bell,
I breathe the salt, I call and shake,
I claw for every moment,
And my blood is still my blood to lose,
My mind. (what mind?)
Well, my confusion,
So sail on by, old Hammerhead, I guess you missed again.
Oh tell my lighthouse our light's not out (it just goes round and round)
Oh tell my lighthouse our light's not out (it just goes round and round)...

Try as I might,
This cowboy heart is hard to hide.
It's been a little bit,
It's been a while,
It's been a long long ride.
Starts and fits,
Little insects shedding skins,
I stood there,
The party raging,
I got so sad we had to keep on aging.
Oh, honestly yall,
We found the hidden valley,
Why'd you want to go and doubt about it?
Micro / Macro / Cosm / Cosmos.
The same thing happening again on a different scale.
Might not be much of a cryer,
But look outside,
Your ships on fire.
Gather up the ones you can gather,
Batter up - it's our turn to matter.
Oh, honestly yall,
We found the hidden valley,
Tryin' not to let it go and end so sadly.

Skating Bye

Life's a bummer.
Come to Cummer.
Some of us were wondering
Where the wonderkind loiters now.
April's wildin'.
May be mild by then.
If everything's out of style again,
Then who says we're not pals.
Don't mind us, we're just skating by.
Uhhhh...
Before you knock it you might want to give it a try.
Choose your story:
Vert or Hori.
No guts, no worries,
Or none we'll get into now.
Catch some, miss some,
Earn some wisdom.
If everything's a holo-vision,
Then let's cover some hallowed ground.
Don't mind us, we're just skating by.
Uhhhh...
Before you know it you might be on a different kind of ride.

Absurdist Staycation
05:03
|

|
The short and long
Is it feels like something's wrong,
But isn't that the way they say it goes
In the hours before the dawn.
The cars go vroom,
You can hear them echo in the room.
Full hearts, new Moon...what did we get you into?
It's all a variation,
We're on this absurdist staycation.
The truest of the Trues,
The greenest of the blues,
'Bye Son's
'Be Cool's
And all our 'I love you's
Maybe I should go to bed.
Hear it's important for your head.
Tomorrow we'll be walkin' through the Pines,
And I'll remember what you said.
It's all a variation,
We're on this absurdist staycation.

Granted, it might be underhanded,
My trying to cast a spell on you with a romantic song,
But I don't necessarily think that that is so terribly wrong.
But maybe it's just overcomplicating
All those simple truths I'd like to say to you,
Just simple sweetheart things that I don't need to sing,
But that I'm too scared to just suddenly say to you.
It's teaching me a lesson
Of where, oh where the hell's my mind today.
Running from the puncture in the daydream egg.
Hold on, wait up,
I'm being cryptic and careful again.
'I love you' is all I was wanting to say...
Today we arrive at ten years from
That one moment we saw clearly
All the shuttle busses ran from that sidewalk in time (that moment in time),
To today.

Phantom Eyelids
03:27
|
|||
|
Dawa got done closing up the store,
Her man, Dan, puts a mop to the floor.
It's time to put the sign up, honey,
Mama bar the door.
The night holds many things,
And many people and creatures weaving in and out of dreams.
"Well if you can't beat'em join em, I always say",
Said Danny with a gleam in his eye.
Phantom eyelids,
Was it something I did?
I'd give almost anything to get back on that island.
Dawa and Dan are two feet on the ground,
They're surrounded by the scents and the sounds
Of beings at the height of being spirits of the spirit in the spirit of the night...
The night holds many things,
And many people and creatures slippin' in and out of dreams.
"Well if you can't beat em," Dan observes,
Dawa finished his thought and said, "baby, hold on tight."
Phantom eyelids,
Was it something I did?
What I wouldn't give to be back home, to be back on that island.
Hold on tight,
Hold on baby,
Hold on tight,
Hold on to your daddy.
Gotta hold on tight,
Hold on tightly,
Gotta hold on tight,
Hold on to your dad,
You better hold on tight,
Try to hold my hand, baby,
Hold on tight, hold on with all you got, you gotta...
From the mystic mists above to the fireworks at our toes,
The world has cracked wide open into fractal states exposed,
All the inner workings and the little deaths that we've known,
And all the little loves and the little seeds we forgot we'd even sewn,
We get spat back out, we get spat back out understanding
That this is the only show. It's the only trip we're guaranteed we're granted.
So hold on.

Slag Glass
03:39
|
|||
|
No buddy,
Don't touch it.
Quite sharp.
Sharp as fuck. It's
A biproduct
Of making metal.
Nail and Hammer.
Pot and Kettle.
So long. You were wrong all along.
No frills,
All the feelings.
Cold Takis,
Regular Cheetohs.
Slag Glass
Got me to thinkin'
All the angles,
Always daydreamin, thinkin about a slag glass.

Night Watch
05:21
|
|||
|
I drive to work into the western setting sun,
A job a dog or camera could just as well have done,
But I get there late,
And I close all the gates,
And I try all the cars,
And I look up at Mars, and stand there thinking of you...
I walk the back lot on the hour with a smile.
I am the manager, a one-man motor mile.
But I look at the ground,
Read a book,
Hear the sound,
Of the cars going by,
And I feel so high that I stand there thinking...
I drive back home into the sunrise...
I can't believe my eyes.
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
I am a morning person...
But I sleep in the afternoon.
