My favorite thing to point out about 1984 is that there were no laws in place. It was all about whatever the fuck the party felt at the moment. No laws means no rights, no rights, no freedoms, just the will of the party. In the middle of a speech, the war alignment changes, and the speaker shifts flawlessly to the new and now forever enemy that has always been and always will be the enemy, until we say otherwise.
