  • I would seriously look into buying an entire town or city.

From there I would invite in workers able to work at least 30 hours a week of physical labor. Specifically looking for the following at first

    • Farmers to try to set up an internal food production.

    • Construction workers to build new units and repair old ones.

    • A few lawyers to cover my ass. (They also have other work if there isn’t lawyering to be done.)

    • People with expertise on how to create factories for manufacturing certain products. With the goal of creating income for the town outside of my dwindling wealth. I have no idea what though. This is the area I am the least knowledgeable about.

    • Personally I’m a useless tech guy. So I’d set up a jellyfin server to replace streaming for everyone in town and some other self hosted solutions that I could make available for everyone in town. Outside of that I guess I’d manage and organize the other people. 🤷

I think I’d set something up so if you live in town for like 5 years I just give you the unit/ house your staying in. Before that it’s free to stay assuming you’re working in town. But with stipulations you can’t sell it to folks from outside of town. ( I want to avoid rich people buying up blocks of town to resell for profit.)

My ultimate goal would be to grow the town into a city sized commune. Transition all of the little businesses into co-ops and obviously transition the company town style power id have over the place at first into something more democratic

  • History shows that sustained, organized labor action (strikes, unions, collective bargaining) has done more to improve working conditions than any fire ever has.

the Haitian Revolution, literally started with enslaved workers burning hundreds of plantations to the ground.

The American Revolution (torching the HMS Gaspée)

The French Revolution (burning the Paris toll barriers).

Pretending that literal fire and sabotage haven’t historically been the exact sparks that destroy oppressive systems is just painfully naive.

Accounts on the right will use them to paint all workers as dangerous radicals. Both are exploiting real suffering for engagement. Neither is offering solutions.

The right is already putting people in camps. This event doesn’t give them an excuse to hurt workers. They already are.

The solution is socialism. The workers must own the means of production. Having a few private individuals own and control so much of the wealth is the problem and ending it is the solution

I also find the idea that the left is exploiting real suffering because of the celebration of these fires, so silly its laughable.

But celebrating arson isn’t solidarity. It’s spectacle.

What do you think working class people bonding over celebrating these fires leads too? This doesn’t hurt class solidarity but you know what does? Comments lecturing people that liking it is bad.

put your energy into the things that have historically worked: organizing, striking, voting, and building collective power.

Definitely agree with organizing/collective power and striking which is just an exercise of that power but voting? Source needed lol.

Summary: your comment was silly and you should feel silly. 🫳🎤

  • Don’t quit. Work how you think is right. Be an asshole to your coworkers who won’t Google for themselves. Work how you would if you owned the damn place and let them fire you if they’re going to.

I say this because I’m sympathetic to you and have the same issue but what gets you into this trap is being competent wanting to help others and being a bit naive. Your coworker knows how to Google but they’re using weaponizer incompetence to have you do it. In what world would your coworker not knowing how to Google negatively effect you and not them? If you would have started ignoring them after telling them the third time I bet they would have gotten in trouble not you.

If you are already ok with quitting be ok with getting fired. Practice being an asshole. Take lots of breaks and push the limits.

If your boss asks why your performance is down tell him you’re doing the work you paid for but might be willing to do more for a big raise and the authority to fire some of those annoying coworkers.

Idk just my 2 cents. I wish you well stranger 👈😎
