I agree with you about the happy slaves being a problematic element, the films were the ones that leaned into the Jewish stereotypes for the goblins though, not the original series. And yeah, she definitely has an issue with naming characters (Seamus Finnigan, Cho Chang, eg).

All of that is a separate issue to the author’s transphobic views, and not a decisive factor on whether the book series as a whole is bad - it’s certainly nostalgic for me, and mostly an enjoyable read.

How is me privately reading a book that I downloaded from a website for free giving anyone clout or supporting anyone financially? And anyway, why is JKR your specific hangup, surely most authors have some ethical controversy or another? I don’t have to perfectly agree with someone’s politics to enjoy their work.
