  • Agreed, OOP is obviously totally out of touch with reality, but my schoolboard is like 3 legacy centrists who are mostly concerned with whether or not the middle schools can have pools or is that too expensive, 3 moms for liberty demons who want to inspect the new math textbooks for hidden CRT agendas and a tiebreaker seventh member, the legacy Republican member who looks like the centrists but never opposed anything the MFL Demons suggest.

    It’s a truly evil entity.

  • “The revolution that feeds the children gets my support,” was what did it for me. It just immediately clicked that if only one political ideology had ever implemented a government that made it a priority that all children absolutely had to be given the necessities of life then that ideology had to be (I know this isn’t very Marxist of me, but I was raised Christian, sue me) righteous, and anyone who opposed it was evil or deluded.

I know that Marxists falter and make mistakes, and if they’re running a country then joining the party is a necessity to certain kinds of social climbers, so there can be careerists, but down deep, Marxists are fighting on behalf of humanity and liberals just aren’t.

He just had a way of distilling very important ideas into consise and understandable language.

  • This one got me. I’d be a “Yeah the US government is evil, it’s a government.” Guy if it weren’t for his clear-eyed and easy to follow rhetoric.

I grew up poor- we always had enough to eat but resources were always thin (single mom, multiple kids, we had to crash with family due to evictions a lot). I always thought of the Soviets and the CPC as just another kind of capitalist and then I heard “The revolution that feeds the children gets more support,” and that’s all it took. Communists have always made sure that everyone had enough, as long as it was within their power, and no one else has ever done that.

Michael Parenti was a so good at clarifying important ideas in a way that a dumbass like me could even understand it. Such a tremendous loss.

  • I’ve never heard of this one, I’ll have to check it out.

Wild to me that these kinds of things don’t move public opinion. Imagine how much it would shake communists if recordings of major communist leaders came out in which they, in conversations they thought were private, confirmed that everything the West says about them is true. It would shake us to our cores! And a liberal can hear a Biden appointee whose job was to devise foreign policy for Europe say “yeah we basically orchestrated the war to stifle Russia’s influence, I’m not sure if the massive death toll was worth it” and they’ll just say “Actually Russia invaded so it’s all their fault, you Ruzzian orc bot.” Genuinely can’t understand it.

Also, is there a list of their stuff anywhere? I’d love to see what else Western elites have admitted to when they thought they were among friends.
