technology@hexbear.net•Red Hat openly supports war crimes, begins scrubbing it off their site when it gains attentionEnglish
1·7 days agoHad to check coz it’s been a while and I forgot. A year it looks like. Was hopping from Pop to Fedora to Debian to Fedora to finally Solus over 1.5 years before that. Used Pop for 6-7 months, must’ve been my other longest distro.
Budgie is not for me though, last I tried it seemed a bit of a mix and match between things. I’ve settled on KDE because my family also seems to prefer the ease of use.

9·7 days agoI switched for the same reason long ago and I only used it because it was more up to date than Debian. Now I use Solus. It’s a curated rolling release with a weekly cycle. Pretty good so far, not much issues.

4·11 days agoI have been trying to finish up Pokémon ZA on Eden. There was a bit more fun than I expected, but a lot of shitty decisions and choices throughout the game development as expected. I can’t give up on it though so I’m pushing through till I can play the next game, which I think is going to be Digimon Cyber Sleuth

World News@lemmygrad.ml•🇮🇳🇮🇱 Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi declares full support for Israel.English
14·2 months agoAdding context to what others have said, Modi’s government also benefits from and relies heavily on under educated and hyper radicalised populace in some parts of the country like UP and Bihar (not limited to but at the top just by numbers). They are actively prevented from getting their needs met in order to keep them on edge and be able to make them into hate mobs against whatever these fascists point at. How this ties to Israel is that this also means they can ship these people off as workers to Israel as cheap labour in the name of foreign relations. The same thing India has done with UAE and such till now. By the time they go there and get treated like shit by Israelis, it’s already too late and no one really cares about the immigrant workers anyway.
Apart from that, fascists align with fascists in order to do fascism better. Israel is to Palestine what India is to Kashmir and a few other "territories"and they have continual arms supplies back and forth and also learning how to do war crimes such as white phosphorous, starvation, apartheid, “tourism” colonisation etc.

2·9 months agoSounds help a lot. For most enemies it’s either sound or literal visible movement. The rest is just learning after getting hit i guess. But just these two things will take you far.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Which AI model to run locally on androidEnglish
38·11 months agoYou want to run it on the phone itself? I don’t think any phone would be good enough for that. The issue with AI assistants is not just privacy. It’s also the resource consumption (and of course stolen content). It’s so high and only these big companies with huge server farms can do it.
If you just want a voice assistant for simple commands, I’ve heard of an open source local assistant called Dicio. But I don’t think you can talk to it like ChatGPT or something.

2·11 months agoBeen playing Avowed mostly. As much as I miss a lot of features from general RPGs, it’s been pretty fun. It’s colorful, combat is reactive and fast and exploration is nice. But time and again I’m reminded of annoyances that take me away from the experience.

1·1 year agoBut Solus is rolling release.
Similar thoughts and after hopping a bit I’m liking Solus really well. It’s rolling release but what they call “curated” rolling release. They take a little bit of time to iron stuff out. There’s a weekly update cycle.
The installation is through live ISO and was pretty easy, took only a few minutes. They have a Plasma ISO too, since you mentioned wanting KDE.
As a plus, I’ve not once used the command prompt in the past couple of months since I installed (GNOME first and then since the last week, KDE). I’m not averse to commands but I do want something that I can recommend to my less techy anti-capitalist friends. My games have all been working fine too.
Edit to add: I think they’ve also mentioned that their aim is for a personal desktop.

Games@hexbear.net•Bethesda being the forefront of practical pricing for video games was NOT on my 2025 bingo card...English
25·1 year agoI don’t think some games costing $80 makes $50 for a 20 yr old game any less atrocious. Plus, they added new asdons just to increase that more. So even calling it a $50 game is incorrect. Bethesda/Microsoft is still a shit company. Nothing has changed.
All I’m seeing is how easily people get used to being scammed because there are so many youtubers and influencers play the role of manufacturing consent by calling it a “good deal”.
And do not bring in developers getting paid enough. The issue is never the price for something this high selling. It’s always the hierarchy and wealth distribution in the company. Even if the game cost $100 those people aren’t gonna see much of it. A $20 game when so many people (in the hundreds of thousands or even millions) buy it can still pay the developers enough if they were actually paid their share.

Games@hexbear.net•The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered OUT NOWEnglish
2·1 year agoOhh I found one. There’s a Linux repacker who does script installers that you just have to download and run. And it even creates an application shortcut. No other tweaking necessary as long as you’re using a distro that’s pretty up to date.
The downside is that there’s very few seeds so downloads might be slow. And since it’s one person, they don’t keep around all the games they’ve done, so when I get older games I sometimes have to just let the torrent be active in the background for some random seeder to show up days later.
The name is LinuxRulez.
