World News@lemmy.world•Magyar set to make rare appearance on Hungary’s state media after accusing them of spreading Orbán propaganda
6·1 day agoNot really.
First of all, Magyar’s cabinet and government doesn’t take over until 1 June. The current government now takes the role of a transitional government (they’re dealing with day to day operations but no major changes, no new legislation, etc.), and now the waiting on the president of the republic begins. Once the president approves of the new government based on the election results, Magyar’s government can form and take over the state ministries and media.
The real issue will be KESMA, a privately held media conglomerate that was funneled a lot of state money to buy up radio and TV stations, online news portals, newspapers of all kinds (from the freely handed out Metropol newspapers through the local daily news and weekly/monthly magazines), and so on. Some 95% of all Hungarian media is within this conglomerate, privately held by Orbán friendly people, guaranteed to be used as opposition propaganda pieces.
Getting the state media back into a more neutral position is but the first battle of an uphill war.

World News@lemmy.world•Magyar set to make rare appearance on Hungary’s state media after accusing them of spreading Orbán propaganda
61·1 day agoLiterally anything is an improvement from the kleptocracy of Orbán.
I don’t have high hopes as Magyar is still a center-right candidate who to date refuses to address even the possibility of rolling back the anti-LGBTQ laws FIDESZ forced through, let alone the various other issues, but nonetheless it’s an improvement.

11·1 day agoTBF with all the visual style changes between characters/environments, no wonder it takes that long.
And I’m all for it. I’d rather have the refined masterpieces the Spiderverse movies have been so far, every 4-6 years, rather than get slopcrap every year.

News@lemmy.world•US military kills two men in new strike on vessel in eastern Pacific
23·1 day agoPathetic, little dick energy murder of most likely innocent people. Nothing more than fear-mongering towards SA countries.
If you identified actual narco traffickers enough to send a “kinetic strike”, why not follow them? Why not track the ship to wherever it lands, and arrest both the suppliers AND the buyers, confiscate the drugs, and have a photo op with your big success?
I know why: because this admin isn’t interested in providing actual results, they want anything they can dress up as a quick win, and hey, if a handful of innocent brown people die in the process, it’s all worth it, amirite? Given a majority of the admin believes that if you’re even a degree off the “acceptable skin colour” range, you must be guilty of something, there’s no surprise this shit keeps happening.

1·3 days agoby concurrency I meant multiple devices of the same user, not multiple users. I don’t know why you’d even consider that I think other users’ progress should be exposed on a single call?
and yet again, that progress doesn’t mean anything when you base it on a number. locator patterns that find the SECTION you’re in based on first-last word (or rather, sentence, for actual precision) are the way to go. you can try hacking this simplified protocol as much as you want, it will never work as well as a dedicated one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Looking for insight from the crafty types: how would you go about making a rolling (semi-mobile) dual computer monitor stand?
1·3 days agoResolution is a pretty standard 1080p@90Hz for most devices. For your purpose I guess a single fixed monitor setup would be ideal, as multimonitor setups mean you can’t get both screens in your view, and it increases latency too.
general latency in single monitor mode is pretty okay though, around 12-16ms on most models I tried. Not as good as a dedicated monitor, but it’s a solution. A lot of people use these glasses with slabtops (generally macbooks with the display torn off), handhelds (Switch, Steam Deck, etc.), and other on the go devices.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Looking for insight from the crafty types: how would you go about making a rolling (semi-mobile) dual computer monitor stand?
1·3 days agoIt doesn’t necessarily have to topple. I have my ~10kg TV on a similar stand and even though the main vertical element is off center, it’s super stable.
My main concern is that OP’s approach is with two - potentially different size/weight) monitors, with movable arms, which does mean the center of weight moves around a lot with every change.

1·3 days agoMost of Xreal’s models don’t have cameras. And you’re not forced to use their software, by default 99% of these devices works as a simple DisplayPort device + USB hub for the attached accessories (microphone, speaker, camera).

politics @lemmy.world•DNC Half-Measures Condemning Dark Money Won’t Cut It, Says Sanders as He Demands Total Ban
12·3 days agoThe difference is, individuals can have vastly different opinions on a topic than a grouping they’re in (even if that grouping happens to be a company).
Companies are essentially that, a formal representation of the interests of a specific group. That does not make their opinion any more important than a singular person’s, but the opinion itself should be recognised. Nothing beyond that, just recognised, it doesn’t even have to be considered.
And this is literally what I’m saying, let the shareholders loudmouth all they want, limit their ability to influence others to this only - speech. Not money, not favours, not tit for tat, not kickbacks, not bribes, speech. Let them huff hot air all they want, let them exhaust themselves, and see the world go on without giving a fuck about it. Kinda like street preachers. They’re annoying but essentially harmless. Limit companies to this level instead of allowing them to ruin our planet.
And as to why let them keep this one thing: it’s not because I want to hear their crap. Or that I want to give them human rights. Far from it. I just want to enjoy seeing said shareholders exhaust themselves with the sole method they have to “influence” things. I want to see them spend countless hours, countless cups of coffee, countless tears and sweat drops, on achieving nothing. Like those prank videos where they put shampoo onto people’s head as they shower, an endless frustration of trying to rinse it out and it still being fucking foamy. I want to see that but on a corporate level. Because as long as they’re busy trying to get more weight behind their voices, they can’t go on and scheme against the world that much.

11·3 days agoWhere did I say I treat them like people? I very specifically differentiated them, drawing the only parallel between the two groups, namely that they can have opinions…

Yeah I get it, especially with Orbán’s constant demonisation of the LGBTQ community, labeling them paedophiles, while his own people are doing that very thing… it’s almost like just because you have two closeted gay friends and one goes to drug fuelled orgies and the other diddles kids, that doesn’t generally apply to the entire gay community, my dude.
So yeah I understand why he’d avoid it during campaign period, but it would’ve taken him nothing to state during that three hour journo event that he will be looking to ensure equal treatment for minorities…
