Honestly a lot of Mexican food looks kind of rough. Molé sauce looks like something you’d have to eat during a fraternity hazing. Birria, looks greasy and almost violently red. Nachos even, are not the most appealing food. But they’re all amazing. So much flavor. The texture is exquisite despite appearances. Largely we’ve learned to maybe adapt our visual palates, I feel.
Whether you directly use these things or not you benefit from them. Schools train people in the services you use or employ. Roads get all of your goods and services to you. You are not an island.

In previous decades, instability always benefits businesses. Laid off people are hungry and will take the same jobs for less pay.
This is the techno feudalism version of that.
That is exactly what I would argue. And many others of course. That’s the “well regulated” purpose. They didn’t mean a bunch of fucking idiots with a fetish. They meant the people could always band together to fight for their freedoms. Because the nation didn’t have a standing army at the time. It was a volunteer militia that gained the freedoms to begin with.
There are a lot of people who want this level of destabilization and interruption of goods and energy security. Techno feudalists want this. Trump needs to feel powerful, so someone like Peter Theil who is trying to bring about Armageddon could easily convince Trump that this move makes him look powerful instead of a target by the rest of the world.
It doesn’t really matter, if any part of it gets built, we’re going to tear it right the fuck down.
The better question is, why are they doing all of this without an actual purchase contract?

It’s hard to not see them following the whims of the tech bros on this one. No disaster recovery, the possibility of burning acres of very crucial farmland and housing. Every disaster pushes things closer to the techno feudalism they want.

She was saying it publicly at the time of hearing. And was basically saying “you can’t shut me up!” as the hearing was going on. The sentence is what finally shut her up as she was attempting to erode democracy. She was the example being made because of her loud, unrepentant public statements. It was the right call at the time. Just because the sentence was effective doesn’t mean we should go back and undo the effective sentence.
