Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Boomers can't understand why gen-z can't put their phones down and watch the TV like a normal person.
18·22 hours agoI know plenty of Boomers who are additcetd to their smartphones. Even more so than the younger generations. Some even have the TV on in the background while doomscrolling.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does James Bond run and fight in suits?
1·3 days agoHe does not. His stunt double does. :-)
This is one of those lyrics that keep hitting hard, even after 30+ years of first hearing this song:
How can I find The right way to control All the conflicts inside All the problems beside As the questions arise And the answers don’t fit Into my way of things Into my way of things
Joy Division - Komakino
This one made my wife say some very unladylike words. Have an upvote, sir!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the fantasy book/series everyone should read?
1·9 days agoOh that’s a good suggestion! Definitiely worth reading!
There’s a few hilarious episodes, but most of it is just weird for the sake of weird without being actually funny.
I recently re-watched Ren & Stimpy and they did not age well. Cow & Chicken has aged better, but is a product of its era too much to have lasting value.
Futurama is an excellent choice. That one has my vote as well.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the fantasy book/series everyone should read?
51·10 days agoI have already read some excellent suggetions. Here’s some of mine:
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb (the Lifeship Trilogy is excellent as well)) The Many-Colored Land series by Julian May Imajica by Clive Barker
Don’t bother with the Ice and Fire series by GRR Martin. The first three books are good and the rest is meh. As per the fourth book, an entirely new set of characters and storylines were introduced, without actuallly finishing the story after the first three books. The story will not be finished and that’s a bummer. Life’s too short and there’s too much better stuff out there.
Well I can’t argue that. Thanks.
You mean Operation Which Epstein Files? I don’t know. As a EU citizen, I do not see much on the Epstein files in US media.
Source? As far as I know, almost any Western civilization has most people in the Boomers / GenX age brackets, so way before 1979. Same for Japan.
Maybe I am cynical, and I am by no way a military expert of any kind, but I would figure that an A-10 is more expendable than a F-35.
I am in the ‘A-10s are cool’ camp, but I do not think that they are particularly useful anymore on a modern battlefield.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever stopped at a cheesy tourist trap "landmark" that turned out to be kinda cool? What was it?
4·24 days agoAgreed about it being a special place. That’s why it popped into my head in the first place. But the many bus loads of people being loaded ever day makes it a tourist trap. The higher parts are more tranquil though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I use a dedicated password manager instead of Firefox's built-in manager?
6·24 days agoAdding to this already good post, a side benefit of a service like Vaultwarden is that you can use the same password management system among all your devices.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the deal with people liking old devices?
2·24 days agoIs that an apple thing?
Sadly no. I have had several Lenovo’s with the same thing, and my current Asus at work does not allow swapping memory or SSD either. My daily driver is a Tuxedo, which does allow all this.
The apple of the automotive world.
From what I hear from a BMW mechanic in the family, they are starting to become the Acer of the Automotive world, although they would have to compete with Volkswagen for that title.

Whether or not you need Steam, would depend on the game you would install.
What type of games do you like? I already see many good recommendations.
If you are into survival games, you could look into Valheim. I can play comfortably at 1440p, medium settings on my integrated GPU (4 year old Ryzen7).
