It was wonderful, I miss being able to hear my hard drive doing stuff, it was a really handy audible indicator.

I don’t have any context for whether this is expensive or not, but…
You’re charged LESS for fuel if you let them wash your car? …what?
Huh, I’ve probably seen it, but I can’t remember ever seeing a bloke pushing a pram here in the UK.
I see loads of women doing so of course, and I must have seen a man doing so at some point, but not often enough to have any recollection of it ever happening. Strange!
I’m sure I’ll take notice the next time I spot it though.

Sure, the guy paid a visit, but he’s hardly a big political or social force here in Europe.

I don’t follow the discourse myself, I just keep seeing people make derogatory references to it here and there.
Just gonna block this account, dick move posting very upsetting phobia shit to intentionally trigger and distress people.
AccuWeather posted this meme?
I mean yeah, so long as you’re not actually giving money to the evil woman that wrote those books in any way, nobody’s stopping you from enjoying your old Harry Potter books and DVDs.
Heck, if you’re missing one you can buy it on eBay second hand, just so long as you’re not supporting the evil woman with a shiny new purchase, ya know? That woman doesn’t deserve a penny.
There’s a separate conversation you might want to have with yourself on whether your can separate the author from the work while you’re reading it, of course, and whether you’re comfortable doing so or not is a personal decision you’ll have to make for yourself.

Technology@lemmy.world•White House App Found Tracking Users' Exact Location Every 4.5 Minutes via Third-Party ServerEnglish
66·16 days agoThe funny thing is, THIS seems to be the part the media is rolling with, but if you read the full details about what it can do and how poorly it’s made, tracking your location is only one thing to worry about (though it’s a big one to be fair).
E.g The potential for running arbitrary malicious code if one random dude on the internet (who is unrelated to the US government) has his GitHub account compromised? Daaaaaaawg
I dunno, obviously I wouldn’t judge my partner for it, it’s not their fault, BUT it would be a big problem for me at least initially, I need silence to sleep, and the slightest noise (that gets through my earplugs - snoring directly next to me would do it) would make sleeping very difficult.
I’ve already experienced it when someone slept over after a date (who turned out to be an extremely loud snorer) and oh boy, it was a night of torture, almost no sleep at all 😂

Don’t worry, America will send wave after wave of their own men! They’ll discover their enemies predefined kill limit, or die trying!
Crazy thing is, my first ever game I spawned on a moderately small island and there was fire clay right on my porch 😂 Not that I knew what it was at first…!

In the quote he’s not saying other jobs don’t suck out your soul, just that it’s different.
In a vacuum, not knowing this guy or the rest of his statement, I don’t see anything obviously wrong with that he’s saying.
They take a mental toll on you in different ways, but they all take a mental toll, is what he seems to be saying, and I find that reasonable.
There are people who think trying to make a career as an entertainer (like in streaming) doesn’t take any toll on you at all, and that’s a misunderstanding we should dispell.
