Hey, you sass that hoopy limer?

5·3 months agoThe lake was renamed from its traditional Mono name by American settlers after an incident on September 23, 1871, in which a group of convicts escaped from prison in Carson City, Nevada, and took refuge near the lake. (source)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would be a valuable thing to have memorized by heart?
2·5 months agoI wouldn’t clip onto a hose, but maybe some plastic flashing or a plastic bracket. Most cars have something near the battery that would work. It’s not essential; just can make it a little easier.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would be a valuable thing to have memorized by heart?
8·5 months agoThe important thing is not to complete the circuit near a battery, since it can cause sparks which can ignite the flammable vapors that batteries tend to emit when discharging. This is especially important near the dead battery, which has potentially been discharging quite a lot recently.
So the usual sequence is:
- Dead positive
- Live positive
- Live negative
- Dead ground (to the metal chassis, ideally not right next to the battery)
I usually start by clipping the dead negative cable to something non-conductive to keep it out of the way and then move it to ground as the last step.

No, people don’t. I’m pretty sure it’s in front for artistic license. He wanted to show the ducks talking but also wanted to show a funny bumper sticker.
It means the same thing as the name of that company, too. It’s marketing.

5·6 months agoChicago has often been used for inspiration (as well as a number of other cities) but it was originally based on Manhattan/NYC. The name “Gotham” was coined by Washington Irving in 1807 as a nickname for New York City.

He’ll certainly be remembered for a long time, but my hope is that he’s best remembered for a lasting impact on James Buchanan’s legacy.
