A fish in water doesn’t know it’s in water, right?
Alright.
To answer your question before you go, no, I don’t think you’re trying to convince anyone of anything. Which is the problem; what are you doing, and how can anyone engage with it? I read what you wrote, it’s just not relevant to what’s going on in this thread.
Like what, was I supposed to fly off the handle and say “politics doesn’t effect anything”, or agree and say “yes we’re both very woke, much better than most people”? That would definitely be a waste of time.
Me? I’m pretty heavily involved in IRL politics and have been for years.
I was nice to OP. That’s it.
So? What are you going to do about it?
If you want to make any difference (which, let’s be honest, it’s mostly shitposting here), you get on an auto-masturbator next to them, and mention a thing or two when you’re both recharging. Maybe, just maybe you’ll plant an intellectual seed.

11·3 days agoI don’t even think it’s fashion. Some ideas sound good but are bad. Or, overlappingly, are convenient to use but actually turn into nightmarish spaghetti code. I don’t know how many people are still pushing MongoDB and BASE, for example.
Meanwhile SQL hasn’t changed, and C didn’t until someone figured out memory safety in Rust.

1·3 days ago'Noughts or “the first decade of this century” are also around. The 2000’s seems to work fairly reliably, but like you said they still might interpret it as the century, and it’s just a mouthful.

2·2 days agoPer chip is a bit misleading - the technology started running into barriers, so they just added more cores and increased die sizes. On top of that, clock speeds stopped going up, because one of those barriers is that energy dissipation from non-reversible switching became insurmountable all on it’s own.
Not everything can be done in parallel across cores, and software hasn’t really kept up with what can be done, so yeah old computers still work fine if you don’t add bloat. Meanwhile, good luck running Windows Vista on a computer from the mid-90’s.
You can’t force people who don’t care to care. Like any therapist will tell you, you only control your own actions.
I guess you could just say “fuck them”, but isn’t the point of politics to help people who actually exist, flaws and all? People who aren’t really into politics are possibly a majority, and people that will put any serious effort into it are a (frustratingly) definite tiny minority. Bugging them anyway isn’t activism.
Apolitical exists. It’s existed in every country ever at about the same level, and probably is a slight majority. You only have to touch grass to find out, basically. I actually don’t believe you haven’t noticed.

What do you mean? Moore’s law died in the 10’s. You’re being reached by a device from early in them and it’s fine.

1·3 days agoHow do you say 00’s? There’s a few options, but none are universally understood when spoken. You end up saying the century as well just for that reason, even when it would be clear from context.
The 10’s come up IRL, as does that we’re in the 20s. People have been confused when someone is actually talking about the 1920’s. So, I’d say we’re good there.
Apolitical and standard-political heavily intermix.
Less so than .ml. If OP had asked over there most of the comments wouldn’t be shaming them.
Besides politics it’s mostly technology, and humour. That’s basically because only a very specific kind of person has chosen to be on Lemmy, at this point.
Here’s a couple at random that are humour:
!antiquememesroadshow@lemmy.world
!reallyshittycopper@lemmy.world
And here’s a couple that are something else:
You’ll notice it’s mostly .world, because that’s by far the biggest instance, and also not very political.

All Iran has agreed to, as far as I can tell, is opening the strait for a couple weeks so long as the US stops fighting completely. So, white peace, and with the possibility they negotiate actual concessions from the US later on.
Is that what the point of the meme was? You can read it as being about how much lower the stakes are, too.
