Legalization/decriminalization is great, I have nothing against that. I just have a hard time seeing how drug enhanced competitions don’t turn into people dying for our entertainment.

I’ve thought about this a lot and I’ve gone back to being against it. A lot of performance enhancing drugs push your cardiovascular system pretty hard. If everyone is trying to juice as much as possible to win, they’ll end up competing to getting as close to death as possible for our entertainment to achieve the max performance. They’re either killing themselves in the process or shaving decades off their natural lifespans. I don’t know if creating such a system would be ethical.
And of course that’s WHY he got crucified. He interfered with the most profitable business of the times: religious extortion. He did it in a way that was tremendously popular. The combination of popular policy and action that undermines the rich for the benefit of regular people is always the greatest fear of the rich. They’re always willing to kill to protect their position.
It’s a universal lesson.
It wasn’t just commercial activity. Money changers were charging a fee to buy shekels which people could use to buy an animal to sacrifice at the temple. Jesus was mad because the idea of inserting yourself as a middleman to extort money from people seeking salvation was basically blasphemy.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Me watching someone on Lemmy getting cooked for having the same opinion as me:
64·15 days agoArguing against adblocker and for YouTube premium is the most center of the bell curve IQ meme take I’ve ever heard.
It’s almost like you wrote a whole thing to say “from each according to their means, to each according to their needs”
Unless you intended to say that you prefer “to each according to their means” because you believe people who achieve more due to their natural gifts should get more… But that’s kind of fucked up when you really think about it. I hope you’re born gifted!
I was with you most of the way but you lost me here. Some of the biggest privileges for cis straight white males is that they don’t have to deal with racism, sexism, and bigotry over who they are and who they love. That’s not a zero sum game. We can all have that privilege. That privilege isn’t what causes bigotry.
There are some privileges that would be lost, like being preferentially hired by racists. But for the most part we’re fighting in large part for equal good treatment. It’s not a zero sum game.
Yes and you know what all us leftists say, “if you have any adversity it means you never had any privilege at all in the first place” very valid. Thank you for your contribution.
I had noticed the tension between right and left wing libertarian concepts. Very interesting stuff. I suspect on Lemmy anarchist or anarchosocialist will get more love than libertarian-socialist. But that’s an interesting name to use in public because it invites questions rather than fear of ANARCHY!
Libertarian socialist?
Either you’re describing anarchism with new words or you’ve got some really weird views.
Like libraries are a clear no-no under libertarian ideology because it “perturbs the market”. If access to something is free then you destroy competition which “breeds innovation” or some shit…
I’ve just never heard of a libertarian library… It’s so antithetical to the concept!
This comic isn’t about any of that stuff.
This comic shows that when people who can barely make it complain, the average middle/upper middle class person get upset and fights them. It also shows that this dynamic greatly benefits the very people who benefit unfairly from underpaying the work of the poor (and the middle class).
Upvoting it is just a recognition that this dynamic hurts us all. Maybe someone who sees this will think twice when they hear a poor person complain about their living conditions. Think past their reactionary reflex. If the middle class doesn’t fight the poor, the poor can move past that obstacle at least. Maybe if they REALLY think about it they’ll join in solidarity, make it easier for the poor to fight for better working conditions. Maybe they won’t, it’s just a meme.
You’re right, the current revolutionary meta isn’t worked out enough or universally agreed upon enough to be plausible yet… But this comic isn’t about that. It’s just about the fact that this fight helps the exploiters and we shouldn’t fight people who want better working and living conditions. This comic can be fixed a minimum wage hike and a tax on the wealthy to mitigate the inflationary pressure this can create.
You’re getting down voted because you’re protecting a complex set of ideas over a simple cartoon and stating that your interpretation is the only logical conclusion/solution proposal of this cartoon. I don’t see any solution proposal here. It feels like a bad faith argumentation on your part against something no one really said. People don’t generally support arguments they see as bad faith.

4·27 days agoHow about pharmaceutical companies are not allowed to initiate an interaction with doctors or patients in any way for any reason?
If a doctor/patient has a question they can reach out. If a company has a new treatment they’ll publish findings and doctors in the field will find out through data and not marketing.
The boobs on the left are nice to look at, but the ones on the right daaaayum that’s nice. Because of our societal expectation of bras at all times for all women, when you see boobs like on the right it’s because a woman has chosen to be vulnerable and it’s extra intimate.
The boobs on the left are boobs you get to see, the ones on the right are the boobs you might get to touch!

11·1 month agoIn Canada we have the same thing. You can every year when filling taxes tick off a box to update your voter info to save you the work. You also can register at the voting booth with ID, or proof of residence, or the statement of a registered voter in the area willing to vouch for you.
Basically zero voter fraud.
Voter ID and registration laws are pure voter suppression!

5·1 month agoYeah that’s the best part. If you watch the vid, it’s clear that the police did most of the damage, but the senator was right in the way “helping” trying to get the “good PR” and he caught all the blame. Absolutely beautiful turn of events!
Except for the marine… Having your hands broken for telling the truth is brutal. No one wants to die for Israel’s wars of aggression.

Didn’t you hear? Dick says that’s all a myth, a ruse by the government to get more taxes… to do evil things like build roads schools and hospitals! This video is propaganda!
