I just used Claude yesterday to add some functionality to an existing python script that interacts with AWS. It created an unnecessary loop where 2 of 3 iterations were effectively no-ops. So while it did ultimately provide what I needed, I still had to refactor what it generated in order to remove the useless loop.
My employer uses Googles business suite for everything, so we use Chrome to access email, calendar, word docs etc.
I still use Firefox & ublock origin for all my other web browsing.
My wife & I both volunteered for this study. Hope it gets approved ASAP!
Do you not understand the concept of a car dealership? You can not buy a car directly from Toyota or Honda or Ford, etc. Prior to roughly 2010 it was illegal in all 50 US states to sell automobiles direct to the consumer. If you wanted to buy a new car you had to buy it through an independent dealership, which is basically a middleman that tacks on various fees, etc. and tries to upsell add-ons.
Part of the way they make money is to not publicize the actual amount you will pay but instead publish the MSRP and their dealership markup. Then they’ll pretty much force you to negotiate that, along with haggling over optional accessories, trying to convince you to finance the car through them etc. So you may not even know the final cost of a new car until you spend hours haggling with them and commit to buying it.
One thing Tesla did right is to get rid of that independent dealership model and sell direct to consumers. You can go to one of their showrooms and test drive a car, and if you decide to buy one you just go onto the website and order it. The price on the website is exactly what you’ll pay. No dealer middleman is adding unnecessary fees just to sell the car to you, and nobody is pressuring you to finance through them etc.
You can test drive a Tesla at a Tesla showroom. You can test drive a Rivian at a Rivian showroom. You can then buy one of them for exactly the price listed on their respective websites. There’s no haggling with sales people, no negotiating over random features, etc.
Here’s to hoping the whole dealership model crashes & burns as well.
Didn’t Musk promise like a decade ago that Tesla self driving would run fine on their “hardware v2” computer, then a few years later that it would require v3, and then v4 before he finally stopped making such promises?

The article says the batteries are in 10 shipping containers, so one charging option is to simply swap uncharged for charged, like a ginormous flashlight.
We have about 40kwh panels and 40kwh battery. We use roughly 1mwh per month, with our biggest consumption between our EV, kitchen appliances, and clothes dryer.
Our solar panels cut our roughly $500/month electric bill to zero when you average it out over an entire year. So that’s $6000 a year. During peak summer our batteries that get charged by the panels send excess electricity back to to the grid that the utility pays a premium for, and last year we got $2500 for that. Our state also pays us for the total amount of renewable energy we generate, and we got about $500 last year for that. So in one year our panels saved us roughly $9000. After we’ve paid off our loan in a couple more years then this will continue generating free money for us.
Better hope they don’t sue you for copyright infringement.

If I lived there then this is what I’d do. Challenge every single person who shows up to vote. After all, how can I personally know they are allowed to vote if they don’t prove it to ME?
I have a few decades programming experience, as a professional software engineer, an open source developer, and a DevOps engineer. There is no way in hell I would do a code review where 15k lines were added and a similar amount of lines removed without having a long discussion with the person who made those changes. I’d want to ask a lot of detailed questions about the changes, questions that an LLM isn’t likely to answer, and most definitely not questions I’d be inclined to try to type into an LLM to try to get an answer.
Over the years I’ve dealt with all manner of bugs, from overflows & underflows, to bad assumptions about logic flow, and much much more. The whole purpose of pointed questioning of the author is to be comfortable with decisions made in the code and to minimize the chances of all sorts of potential bugs.
My wife used to drive an electric Smart Car for her work. Its 60 mile range was perfect for her needs, and she never had to search far for a parking spot in the city. She’d regularly fit into spots that SUVs etc. had to pass by.
Smart is owned by Mercedes. They pulled the Smart line from the US a couple years ago because Americans largely want their tank-sized SUVs and not small efficient cars, even in major cities. Good luck To Fiat as they learn the same lesson…
I like the idea of referring to LLMs as “spicy autocomplete”.
Not just where to put the nails but also how hard to swing the hammer, when to stop swinging it, etc.
