Long answer: Kind of, but not in any kind of a way to where a desire to unite is a position with mass popular support. A unified India as a political entity has been historically a rare thing, and mostly exists currently as a unified entity as a direct result of the British Raj. There are several territories and Tribes that seek independence from the Indian Republic. Two of those territories were Pakistan and Bangladesh (FKA Pakistan). There likely are residents of Pakistan who wish for re-unification with India, however per my understanding the prevalent notion is that Pakistan’s time within the unified India were not preferred. Ultimately this is a function of that borders can never be drawn with respect for the people who live on the land. There is no line you can draw between any two national cores where everyone who wants to be on one side of the line is on the side they want to be on. To use Poland as an example, in 1931, Lwow had a population of 312,000 people, making it the 4th largest city in Poland. Of those 312,000 people, ~20% self identified as Ukrainian. How do you draw a boundary line between Ukraine and Poland where all Ukrainians are in Ukraine and all Poles are in Poland when a city on their border is so blended?

Countering your example: It’s less like Pakistanis are like the Germans in Austria who can’t unite with Germany and more like Pakistanis are like the Austrians in Austria who found themselves in Germany after Germany declared them German.

this is one of the examples of how electoralism can only ever give us some breathing room, but never our full liberation. even a “good” politician is still a politician. they may have entered government to reshape government, but eventually working in government will reshape them.

i encourage others to work to get the best possible politicians into positions of power, but to also work on coagulating people power in order to topple those same positions of power. here are some things you can do:

• organize a union
• learn first aid
• participate in mutual aid projects
• become acquainted with self defense and community defense mechanisms
• learn about reducing your digital footprint at protests

am i? they implement draconian mass surveilance measures, reinforce racism, and tolerate a shocking degree of transphobia. when i look at the things the labour party has done in my life, i see a littany right-wing populist actions that undermine left-wing populist movements. if we use the definition of fascism that fascism is right-wing populism undercutting left-wing populism, i find it hard to see Labour as something other than the slick clean wide smiling acceptable version of Britain’s Ur-Fascism spearheaded by the Conservative and Union Party

edit: since you downvoted me witheut engaging at all, i’ll reiterate what i said before: Hasan is the most least worst streamer. if i am forced to recommend a streamer, he’s the one i’d recommend. i just don’t think that streamers offer much value, politically. people don’t really go to them and have their minds changed. that happens with in person activism. i think Hasan offers value in the form of propaganda presence, which i think all any of us can ever offer here on lemmy. however, if you really want to hear from someone useful, go to a soup kitchen run by a mutual aid project and talk to the people there about what to do about all this. where i’ll give hasan his roses is he’s generally speaking in alignment with people like that. however, my main criticism: streamers as a group aren’t great, remains my main criticism

I think us leftists in America need to put together a wrestling promotion further left than AEW. WWE is MAGA, AEW is DNC.
