I do use ProtonDB (esp. for my Steam Deck) and like it a lot, but, we have a saying in German “Probieren geht über studieren” :D

Idk I got a crash and decided to just finish it on Windows (had to reboot anyway). Luckily it’s a short game so I wasn’t “stuck” with Windows for too long. So I can’t really say if it would’ve kept crashing or if it was a isolated incident, but it never crashed on Windows in the remaining 10 hours.
EndeavourOS, nvidia
I was surprised that Crimson Desert works out of the box (and I think even loads faster than on Windows) and also that RE:Village doesn’t work (it runs but crashes)
I just switched my home PC last week. It’s kinda funny how Steam games are a roulette of support, but it’s been really fun thus far.
Was surprised that the government app I have to use is actually open source and on the AUR.
Can’t fully drop Windows sadly but definitely minimize the usage as much as possible.

2·16 days agoJust recently switched to Linux and realized I had no htop so I went for btop instead (because I’m trying out loads of new stuff). I’m very happy with it and I love the doom aesthetic of the esc-menu.

Technology@lemmy.world•Wikipedia has banned AI-generated text, with two exceptionsEnglish
2·18 days agoThere’s definitely a lot of nuance in this topic. I think discarding the whole thing and saying “And if your grasp of the language isn’t good enough, you can edit a page in your own language” is a bit naïve. English is the lingua franca of the world, so if you have knowledge about something that should be in Wikipedia but isn’t, adding or appending to a English page will reach the widest audience. Ideally you’d then do the same for your native language as well.
As long as there are humans at the beginning and end of the pipeline I at least hope that this won’t negatively affect the quality.

Technology@lemmy.world•Wikipedia has banned AI-generated text, with two exceptionsEnglish
12·19 days agoEh I think this sounds ok. If you prompt an AI to improve your text, you submit that, and another human reviews that (and maybe asks you to make changes) it should be fine. I can see this giving more people the ability to make edits (e.g. non-native speakers)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•self-hosted KeePass database in the cloud, what are some good options?English
1·19 days agoWell ideally having it on a VPS would give me on-the-go access to the most recent copy, which might not be as important if continuous background sync between my home PC and iOS really works with syncthing.
Having someone steal my keepass database file would be suboptimal, but not the end of the world. I don’t think (or at least I really hope) that current tech can’t brute-force keepass databases.

1·19 days agoThanks everyone. Syncthing does seem like the ideal option for me and what I’ll be going with.
I’d just like to hear opinions if I should also run syncthing on my VPS as well or just on my home PC?

True and it’s a vicious cycle. 2 albums, 1 game, soundtracks for a handful of games, and a bunch of videos, all of which struggle to crack the 2 digits, making stuff is very demoralizing for me so I don’t make as much stuff as I’d like etc etc
No but I had a mastodon account and I have like 12 subscribers on YT so it checks out
