Why go to “museums” when you can watch Germany participating in genocide right now?

Technology@lemmy.world•Large physics models are increasingly used to bypass simulationEnglish
2210·2 days agoAnd again no “AI” is used, because it does not exist and is not needed for statistical approximations.
Props to this publication for at least leaving the grifter bullshit out of the title. That’s a clue that the technology might actually be useful.
“AI” <<<<<<< large physics models
Sorry to hear about your grandma. Best wishes to you and fam. RIP.

1·4 days agoI don’t think they are lying in the technical sense, it all depends on what they define as “sandbox/continenment”
Redefining terms might not be lying “in the technical sense” but it’s still bullshit.

141·4 days agoMaybe instead of crying about imaginary “AI”… These people should look into why our social lives are so toxic under capitalism that a chatbot is an improvement.
my OS will be tied to my ID, but as long as my online traffic isn’t that should be fine.
lmao
Here’s one way that liberal fascism maintains control:
- Maintain control of everything
- If control is lost, create mass hysteria about “social media”, “kids,” “addiction”, “islam”, “immigration”, whatever, etc.
- Steamroll everything.
- Regain control.
It’s how they got TikTok, etc. It’s how they’ll try to get Lemmy, Linux, VPNs, etc. The wild part is how many lib “allies” will fully support this.
Yes, it’s a trap like everything else. It’s another front in the struggle.

Programming@programming.dev•what open source tools do you use for music?
1·7 days agoI use LMMS for making beats/midi. Make sure to get latest release. It could use some major improvements but it gets the job done most times. I use Audacity to fill in the gaps.
I’ve been using Juk as an mp3 player and I’ve been using Picard (MusicBrainz) for metadata. I just switched to Nicotine for downloading and it seems great so far. (Previously I was using yt-dlp but the new YouTube API is harder to use and scarier in terms of getting banned.)

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The UN Voted to Make Food A Human Right, Only Two Countries Voted No: Israel and USAEnglish
1·9 days agoI’m pretty sure that the privileged are well fed around the world.
Approximately 13.5 percent of U.S. households — more than 47 million Americans, including nearly 14 million children — struggle to put food on the table. Here the measure of hunger is “food insecurity” — an ongoing uncertainty of where the next meal will come from. More than 1 in 5 U.S. children are at risk of hunger (1 in 3 among Black and Latino(a) children). To the surprise of many, most Americans (51.4 percent) will live in poverty at some point before age 65.
