Ways to sell VERSE
Selling VERSE can mean two different things. You can swap it for another cryptocurrency and keep the proceeds in crypto, or you can cash out to a government-issued currency and receive a payout. The routes differ in what you end up holding and in who has custody of your tokens along the way.
| Route | What you receive | Custody | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swap in the Bitcoin.com Wallet | Another cryptocurrency | You hold your own keys | Routing depends on in-app support |
| Verse DEX | Another cryptocurrency | You hold your own keys | Connect your own web3 wallet |
| Third-party exchange | Another cryptocurrency | Varies by platform | Availability and liquidity vary |
| Cash out on this page | Local currency | Custodial during the order | Subject to regional availability |
How to sell VERSE
VERSE is Bitcoin.com's ecosystem token. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, which means it can be held in any compatible wallet and traded wherever there is liquidity for it. If you want to go the other way, you can also buy VERSE on this site.
Swapping VERSE in the Bitcoin.com Wallet
The Bitcoin.com Wallet is a self-custody app, so a swap runs from your own wallet and the tokens you receive stay under your own keys. Which assets you can swap VERSE for depends on the routing available in the app at the time.
- From the home screen, tap Swap.
- Select the asset you want to sell (VERSE).
- Select the asset you want to receive.
- Enter the amount to swap and tap Review.
- Check the rate and the amount you will receive, then slide the arrow to confirm.
Swapping VERSE on Verse DEX
Bitcoin.com's decentralized exchange, Verse DEX, lets you swap into and out of VERSE from a web3 wallet you control. Nothing is deposited with a platform: the trade settles on-chain and the tokens arrive in the wallet you connected.
- Go to verse.bitcoin.com and connect your wallet.
- Select the asset you want to sell (VERSE).
- Select the asset you want to receive.
- Tap Swap Preview and check the rate and price impact.
- Review and approve the swap in your wallet.
Once the transaction is processed on-chain, your balances update in your wallet. There is a longer walkthrough in this Verse DEX guide.
Swapping VERSE on a third-party exchange
As an ERC-20 token, VERSE can also be traded on third-party decentralized exchanges that support it. Availability, routing and liquidity change over time, so check the venue you intend to use before planning a trade, and verify the token contract address against an authoritative Bitcoin.com or Verse source before you swap.
Cashing out VERSE to local currency
If you want money in a bank account rather than another token, use the sell widget at the top of this page. Choose Verse and your payout currency, enter the amount, review the order and add your wallet address, then enter your payout details and send your VERSE to the address shown. The three steps above cover the flow, and the wallet address you provide is used as the return address for that order if the transaction cannot be completed.
Direct cash-out is subject to regional and provider availability. Where direct VERSE cash-out is unavailable, another option may be to swap into an asset supported by an available cash-out provider, then sell that asset separately. This introduces an additional swap and its associated network, liquidity and/or service costs.
What it costs to sell VERSE
What you pay depends on which route you take, because a swap and a cash-out are charged in different ways.
- Network fee: Paid to the network whenever your tokens move on-chain, including every swap. Because VERSE lives on Ethereum, this rises and falls with congestion on that network rather than with the size of your trade.
- Price impact and liquidity: On an automated-market-maker DEX, a trade can create price impact when its size is significant relative to available liquidity. Larger trades relative to available liquidity can produce greater price impact. The effect depends on the liquidity available in the specific trading pool or route, and the swap preview shows it before you approve.
- Quoted rate and service fee: When you cash out rather than swap, the rate applied to your VERSE and any service fee are shown in the quote before you confirm.
- Payout processing fee: Charged according to the payout method you choose, and payout methods differ in what they cost.
How to compare VERSE selling costs
When you are weighing one route against another, put four things side by side:
- The rate or swap preview shown for your amount
- Any explicit service or payout fees
- The network fee to move your tokens
- The final amount you will actually receive
The final amount received is the most useful comparison, but also check whether network fees or other costs sit outside the quoted amount. It is also worth checking whether a two-step route, swapping to another asset and cashing that out, leaves you with more or less than selling directly.
How to sell VERSE safely
Token transfers and on-chain swaps cannot be reversed once they confirm, and a token swap adds a few risks that a straightforward coin sale does not have.
- Check the token and the network: VERSE is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Sending VERSE using a network the recipient does not support can result in the tokens being difficult or impossible to recover.
- Verify the contract on a third-party interface: Token names and tickers are not unique identifiers, so verify the contract address before trading VERSE through a third-party interface.
- Read the swap preview: Check the rate and the price impact for your amount before approving. If the impact looks high, a smaller trade or a different venue may leave you better off.
- Be careful with token approvals: Review the amount and permissions requested before approving token access, and revoke approvals you no longer need where your wallet supports this.
- Check the address and the amount when cashing out: Send to the address supplied for your specific order, and scan a QR code rather than typing it by hand where possible.
- Confirm your payout details: A wrong bank or card number can delay or misdirect your payout even when the token side of the sale went perfectly.
- Never share your recovery phrase or private keys: No legitimate service, buyer or support agent needs them. Knowing how to back up and restore your wallet protects the tokens you keep.
Do you pay tax when you sell VERSE?
In many countries, selling VERSE for cash is a taxable event. Swapping VERSE for another cryptocurrency often is too, even though no money reaches your bank, because in many jurisdictions a crypto-to-crypto trade is treated as a disposal. Simply holding is usually not.
That makes record-keeping matter more here than on a straightforward cash-out. A two-step route can create more than one potentially reportable disposal or transaction depending on the rules where you live, so keep the date, the amount, the rate and the fees for each swap as well as each sale.
Rules differ substantially between countries, and between individual circumstances within the same country. Check the regulations where you live, or speak to a qualified tax professional. This page provides general information and is not tax advice.
