ops_user0b399 Excellent article. I think there will be a number of owners who will accept the tax and then offset spending elsewhere in the city. A neighborhood festival? Sponsored by the generosity of the xxxxx family? Gone. The contribution to help clean up the parade after the Knicks won the NBA? Find someone else to kick in. Point being, many owners simply won't go quietly. They will offset the tax, the city loses $$$ in other areas and collectively the new tax will net out at far less than expected.

My grandparents stayed home into their 90s. It took six adult children, extensive unpaid care, and $300,000 in savings to make it possible.

wrk_navigator0826b I did this for approx. 23 years. My sister made out the bills and did the weekly grocery shopping. I did have adult day health care Monday-Friday but I pretty much ran the show. I stepped up to the plate but the rest of my brothers and sisters did not. Yes, doctor and podiatry appointments that I took care of. Elder care is really tough.

team_planner794ae My husband and I took care of both my parents. We don’t regret the decision to do so. There were times it wasn’t easy , but extra time was worth it. We had wonderful friends and family that were there for us. I can’t see how it cost 300,00 to take care of their grandparents. Does this include insurance?

wrk_watcher22c10 The price hike has to do with long lead times. Premium trims currently have a long 3-4 month wait time until delivery. The Dual Motor is even worse as customers are looking at delivery sometime in 2027.

Behind the scenes Tesla is struggling with a CT supplier, Angstrom, parts shortage so production is sporadic at the TX factory. Nothing slows down in incoming orders better a price increase.

Amy Leaitu moved into a senior living community when she was 54. The average age of the residents is 76. She can't imagine living anywhere else.

ops_connectora7291 I don't like the idea of segregating people by age. Being over 50 is not very old. Some 55+ communities have strict restrictions and very high HOA fees. You often cannot have young guests stay with you, or if you can, they limit the length of their stay. Basically, these communities isolate you after the age of 50.

ops_thinker68f08 We visited several places where there are only the apartments in a senior community, no food. . And you still pay for internet,
taxes, and utility bills. For two bedroom, about 1050 sq ft, the rent was about $3500., the bedrooms are very small. Be careful where they have
AC and heating unit. In your apartment for separate billing purposes. Because that one particular bedroom then becomes very noisy.

The other properties that we visited where food was included, after first few days, you do not enjoy that food. And you still have to pay for it, a lot of people end up cooking for themselves. Obviously, they cannot cater the food for everyone in that large community.

Besides food and noise issues. the idea is great. people are wonderful. It was really enjoyable to be with people in the community.

One more thing for me was that I found it emotionally difficult to downsize from 4000 ft.² home to 1000 ft.² with one noisy bedroom. the construction work, bathroom finishes were not desirable either.

This trip maybe your parents' only trip to Spain. Of course they would want to see and experience everything available. At 72 I have to live like every trip might be the last.
Perhaps you could visit your parents if you want them to get to know your daughter better.

wrk_user61344 And here I thought I was doing well with over $2 million saved at age 60. This guy implies that at I need $4-5 million to retire at this withdrawal rate. So I guess I need to work until I'm 85 even though I'm pretty sure I'm not living much, if any, past 80. That's some bad math. Who has enough money to retire at this withdrawal rate? I'm in the 93rd percentile of net worth in the US (I don't count my home) and this guy is saying I need to be in the 96th percentile. Not buying it. I'd rather retire next year as planned and reduce spending if I need to. I have a year and a half worth of living expenses in an emergency fund. And I'm not going to chase $4 million or $5 million. Life after 80 isn't really a life I want to live anyway.

biz_riser689bf A very confusing article. Seems to have a flawed understanding of Bengen’s withdrawal system since it talks about having to cut your spending in a down market. The whole point of the safe withdrawal rate is that your annual spending keeps up with inflation and your portfolio will still survive until the end of your 30 years. There is no need to cut down. If you’re concerned about extending it beyond 30 years, then the 4% (or 4.7%) rule does not apply and obviously a different withdrawal rate is necessary since the original research applied to a 30 year retirement.

If we are sticking with just apples to apples though—today, I could buy a 30 year TIPS ladder at a withdrawal rate of 4.9%, so to argue that cutting your withdrawal rate to under 3 is poor reading of the situation

There is a catholic church from the 1700s , the old state Capitol, and the home of President William Henry Harrison ( Grouseland). There is a also a museum dedicated to comedian Red Skeleton.Just a few miles away in Illinois is a stone formation called " Garden of the Gods" and withen a 2 hour drive a pirate cave on the Ohio River. There is usually also a fur traders rendezvous yearly near the Clark National Memorial.

You may be physically fit but, indicate that you can't run anymore.
It may be time to consider that what is best for your son/grandson is to make plans if something happens to you.
Pick a family. If they say yes then bring him over everyday and become like another grandparent. Maybe some of your former foster kids would welcome him!!!
