Remembrance Day services held across the country

Australians fell silent on Saturday, commemorating the veterans and their families forever changed by the heavy cost of war. A number of Remembrance Day services were held across the state and around the country.

00:00 As the clock struck 11, Adelaide came to a standstill.

00:12 Hundreds gathered at the National War Memorial on North Terrace,

00:15 marking the 105th Remembrance Day,

00:18 the Governor and Premier leading the tributes.

00:21 I have had family members who have been killed in war,

00:24 in the First World War and the Second World War,

00:26 as well as friends who were lost in Afghanistan.

00:29 So days like this are very important to me.

00:32 It's special memories and time to reflect on all those people

00:37 who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

00:40 The service fostering a connection across generations.

00:43 It was really wonderful to see everyone gain their respect,

00:47 paid respect, the proper way.

00:49 I even laid a roof down with my friend Annabelle.

00:53 Another service was held at the West Terrace Cemetery.

00:56 Almost a dozen World War II veterans attended,

00:59 where more than 4,000 military personnel have been laid to rest.

01:03 Schoolchildren placed hundreds of Australian flags

01:06 on the graves of fallen soldiers in Port Lincoln,

01:09 while the Prime Minister attended the event

01:12 at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

01:14 This year's National Commemorative Address reflected

01:17 on more than two million Australians who have served in the Defence Force.

01:21 This has enabled our nation, our character, the beliefs and ideals,

01:27 our ability to choose how we want to live, our ability to have choice.
