Teenage girl arrested after fatal stabbing in Melbourne

A 12-year-old girl is in hospital receiving an assessment after being arrested over a fatal stabbing in Melbourne’s inner west.

00:00 Forensic police have just arrived on scene here on Barclay Street in Footscray where

00:06 a 37-year-old woman has been stabbed to death.

00:09 So homicide detectives have been here since the early hours of this morning.

00:13 Emergency services were called just before 2am to report to the woman deceased.

00:18 Now a 12-year-old girl was also found at the scene with the woman and she has been arrested

00:23 by police.

00:24 So that 12-year-old girl, she is in hospital under police guard and there is little that

00:28 we can tell you other than that at this stage as police are in the early stages of this

00:32 investigation but certainly forensics are on scene investigating, scouring the scene

00:36 for some clues as to what has happened here.

00:39 Police also say that they are investigating whether the two, the 12-year-old girl and

00:43 the 37-year-old woman were known to each other.
