Hello, my name is Matthew Humphreys, I'm the director of the Winslandley College film Sandcastles.
00:05
So we've been making the film for about over a year now and it all started with
00:11
college approaching us and saying oh we're going to do a short film which is going to be about 20
00:18
to 30 minutes long. No one knew you know where we'd be right now but I managed to become director
00:24
and then over like a two-week period we had a 60-person crew, cast and crew assembled and we
00:33
pre-planned for about six months and then shot for about three months as well. The film that
00:39
we've cut together now is about two characters, one our female protagonist is Charlie and she is
00:47
unfortunately suffering with cancer and we know as an audience that she's on her way out sadly and
00:57
it's she basically makes it her mission that she's going to use her last few weeks to help someone
01:04
in a great way. So we've got Jay, our male protagonist who is struggling in life, he's
01:13
dealing with issues regarding alcohol and he's not really got a prominent mother and father figure
01:20
in his life so it's Charlie who decides to use her final moments to put him on a better path and
01:27
show him that there's a lot to life and there's a lot to live for basically and
01:35
when you watch the film you'll see where he ends up as a result of her help.
01:41
This has been such a great experience for me because obviously I'm an aspiring film director
01:47
and having a cast and crew of around 60 people to manage has been even, it's been a daunting task
01:54
but it's also been extremely rewarding for me because this is like acting as that one big
02:01
stepping stone in my career which will hopefully, well has taught me so much I need to know and
02:08
what I've learned on the project is something I'm going to like take forward to future projects and
02:13
yeah it's been a really important project and I think everyone's enjoyed it, not just myself,
02:18
everyone's benefited from it and yeah it's a great thing to be a part of.
02:22
Hi my name is Beverly Brary, I am a teacher here at Winstanley College and for the past year,
02:28
it's about a year ago, myself and some of the students got together to make a film. It's the
02:36
first time we've done this, very exciting. It's all been the students from choosing the script,
02:43
choosing the director, producers, they all had to audition for their role, it wasn't a given.
02:52
The way that they have worked together, the professionalism, the passion that they put
03:00
into this has been absolutely wonderful. As a teacher I've been around to on on shoots but
03:07
I've also been directed by the director, he's completely been there, their baby from from
03:15
start to finish. We are now at the stage where we've almost finished it and we have our premiere
03:23
on the 3rd of July. This will be a full red carpet event and we want everybody to come and
03:32
enjoy the evening and to celebrate the success of our students. There's been about 60 students
03:37
involved and they have the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into this. We're really excited
03:44
for this evening event. So 3rd of July 6.30am, tickets are available at
[email protected]
