Both leaders hit the road in the South-East on day three

Day 4 of Queensland’s election campaign has seen both leaders in the state's south-east.

00:00After spending the first few days of the campaign touring north and central Queensland, Premier

00:07Stephen Miles is today focusing on the southeast, making a trip to a marginal electorate on

00:13the Sunshine Coast that Labor's hoping to hold onto.

00:16Mr Miles visited an electric bus depot in Caloundra, a seat currently held by Labor

00:21on a margin of 2.5 per cent.

00:24Caloundra was won by the LNP at 10 elections, then swung to Labor in 2020.

00:29The Premier used the visit to continue talking up his energy policies and also announced

00:33funding for a new local school hall if re-elected.

00:37Earlier his Deputy and Treasurer Cameron Dick gave an update on the state's books.

00:41He says the figures for last financial year are rosier than was estimated in the June

00:45budget.

00:46Debt has reduced from $12.2 billion estimated at budget to $6 billion.

00:53So debt is $6 billion lower than at the delivery of the budget in June.

00:58Our surplus, I'm also pleased to say, has also increased by $1.1 billion.

01:05The surplus for 23-24 is now $1.7 billion.

01:10The opposition leader has also spent day four of the campaign in the southeast visiting

01:14two electorates.
